Need help creating a CR8 maimed beholder

There was a very cool zombie beholder encounter in an old 4E adventure. Don't remember offhand exactly from where; probably from a Dragon issue.

It featured a great set of spinning blades the heroes had to jump and balance on, while fighting off this large ball of putrid gasses...

I was thinking something more along the lines of a ghost beholder or a ghoul beholder. I do not know the surroundings of the encounter but in a dungeon or tomb these would work fine. Maybe lead in with some ghoul spectators.
