Need help creating a spell.

Well, i came up with this idea earlier. My character is a low level (1st level) cleric of Olidammara, god of wine, women, and song. I had thought of a version of Create Water that created wine instead...but im not sure if this would still be a 0 level spell. Its a little more powerful (as you can always sell wine...water is cheap). Any ideas?

Leave it 0th level, but add a spell component which is the price of a bottle of wine, and limit it to the creation of a single bottle at a time.

If you wanted to, have the cost be slightly lower than that of a bottle of wine, so long as it doesn't allow for massive profits instantly, I don't see where it would become a problem.

Hows this for the spell? I had to look up gems to find suitable ones that would be less than a bottle of wine.

Create Wine
Conjuration
Level: Cleric 0
Components: V,S, M
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: Close
Effect: 1 bottle of wine/component
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell generates a bottle of fine chilled wine, either red or white, as the caster wills. The wine is chilled on creation, but does not stay this way long (it warms as a normal bottle of wine would).

Material Components:
one freshwater pearl worth at least 8 gp per bottle wanted, no more than 2 per caster level per casting.

I chose 8 gp because its a little bit less than a bottle of fine wine, but it wouldnt lead to massive profits. And in the random treasure generator the gem was listed as around 10 gp, the same as a bottle of fine wine.

My thoughts.....give it an xp cost of 5xp per gallon created. Now that isn't hardly worth noting and wouldn't make much of a difference casting it even on a semi regular basis, however you couldn't just crank it out in the amount that you would have to sell to get enough gold to have any real affect on gameplay without making a decent sacrifice in xp. The xp cost represents the dulling of the senses that comes along with drinking wine.

Alternately you could make the wine lose its potency after one day or something like that.

Hmmm......i think ill stick with the material components instead, although i might alter it, so that its just a freshwater pearl (never heard of the other gem till i looked in the DMG), and the caster decides what type of wine he wants. I just sent a message to my DM, asking if he would allow the spell, so im hoping he rules favorably.

Okay, now where's the cantrip to create women? :D

Err, just meant if you're creating wine, might as well also try and create the women.... (creating song is easy to do so no spell needed for that :-)

(umm.. bad joke, sorry :) )

Anyway, back to topic. I think it seems reasonable.

Either of the options seem viable: the Material component (the gem or gold) or making it an XP compoent of 5xp or so. Both seem to handle the task.

Perhaps adding DF as another component? (then again, I am prejudice and think a DF should be needed for most if not all divine spells)...

Or if you want to go for a dramatic effect, add an additional M , a grape (or handful of) that get crushed in hand during the casting. Of course, that does make the spell a little more difficult to cast if they have to find/carry grapes everytime.

But, bottom line, I think what you have going so far should be fine over all.. all these other changes that are being sugested by me, above, are minor quips that really don't make a heck of a lot of difference.
