Although I am a huge Modern20 fan, its reliance on HP and the superior third party support for True20 throws my recommendaiton in its camp.
That said, buy the Modern20 pdfs. His innovaitons on handling resources, reputation, etc, are all fantastic.
Also the revised edition of Modern20 will have firearms covering the 1890's through the entire 20th century.
It'll be out in a week or so, but if you get the current book, it will be a free upgrade.
However, Modern20 has very little FX, so if you want magic or weird science, it might not be what you need.
In my research I found a game by the name of Etherscope- by Goodman Games. This sounds like a seriously cool game to handle the steampunk bits-I need to find a copy of that as well. Anyone have any experience? I believe it was nominated for an ENnie a few years back?
Thx for the input everyone- I ended up deciding to initially try D20 Modern- there is a alot of support material available as well as compatible games/games based on the the d20 Modern SRD. I've a copy of the core book and D20 Past on the way.
