Need Help on Epic character concept, please [merged]

Ok

ok so here's my deal. my dm's not gonna tell us what kind of story its going to be he said try to prepare for anything including other planes. now i found this last nite http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving....ia.info/wiki/index.php?title=Ultimate_Classes and he said he would allow it. someone is already going to be a 20th level cleric and two other players are going to probably run fighter types. one samurai and one bladesinger. ive never done an epic campaign so im not exactly sure that if i choose a spellthief/shadowdancer even at 20th level if they'll be able to survive the freakin power of an epic storyline. now on the link above they have a class called the ultimate prodigy that looks wicked cool as well but can only cast up to 5th level spells. this is only my 4th campaign and i dont know much about d&d but i freakin love it. so any and all help is most greatfully appreciated. btw wtf is bab??

Think I might have it.

So i've been boucing around ideas for my epic character in the upcoming campaign and i think i might finally have it. Race- yuan-ti pureblood. Class- spellthief. Prestige class- shadowdancer. 14th lvl spellthief- 6th level shadowdancer. Other party members will be cleric, samurai, and i believe bladesinger. This is only my 4th campaign so im not too familiar with everything. DM said to prepare for anything possibly even trips to other planes. I would just like some opinions on the character i have chosen. Will i be powerful enough to stay alive?? Will i be able to help my party?? or is this chick going to suck massively and will i probly die in the first fight we see?? I think it has a way cool kick ass factor and seems like i could be really useful but i hardly know anything about this game. preciate any and all comments opinions and help. LATE.

BAB = Base Attack Bonus. The BAB of a Spellthief 14/Shadowdancer 6 would be +14/+9/+4. What sort of role are you wanting this character to fill? I'm not overly familiar with the Spellthief class, but the build you've listed would probably make for a very efficient scout and magekiller, though it would lag far behind a pure rogue as far as sneak attack damage is concerned. Also, is your DM taking ECL into account? If so, I'd recommend against the yuan ti pureblood, as he's going to lag 6 levels behind a standard race character.

edit: What I meant, of course, is that he'll lag by 2 levels, and be stuck with 4 racial levels, so a 20th level build might look like Yuan ti pureblood 4/Spellthief 12/Shadowdancer 2.

DuDe iTz FLeX, while I understand you must be pretty stoked to be making this character, you really only need one thread for it.

Please stop opening up new ones :)

thanks,

I've ran an epic campaign before and the most effective character classes was a pure Wizard, Cleric, or Druid. (Make sure you take the epic feat that lowers metamagic costs and get empower). You are going to need spell penetration and improved spell penetration or you will have nerfed yourself. My advice? Be a pure non-specialized wizard and you will have enough feats to do what you need to do, however the epic spell creation is really nice to clerics and druids.

From the other thread, which I'm going to request be closed:

If you are expecting to be useful in combat, you will suck and die horribly.

Shadowdancer is flavorful, but mixes poorly with ... well, most things. Ranger is okay, as is Bard, or something in combination with Ranger / Bard. One level of Shadowdancer is okay for a Rogue, but otherwise... just say no.

Spellthief mixes poorly with everything. It's meant to be played up to level 20, else you can't steal high level spells. (Note: if you are using that special multi-class feat "Master Spellthief", then Spellthief mixes well with Wizard. As in, one level of Spellthief, 19 of Wizard.) But Spellthief is a bit of an "expert level" class. It's not very powerful unless you know and work the spellcasting system, and have other spellcasters in the party to voluntarily siphon.

If you're not experienced with spellcasting, I recommend a Sorcerer with a bunch of Heritage feats.

Square off against a Titan (pull out that Monster Manual) and now try the build I suggested.
Now give each set 10 levels... Now square off with two Titans.

I had assumed he was going for more of the self-buffing rogue-ish character build. If the OP is expecting his character to do much blasting, then this is very good advice. The majority of monsters you'll be facing at this level (at least those that will get you XP) will have SR, and caster level is critical. Of course, for those that do chose to multiclass, there's always the Practiced Spellcaster feat.
