Need help phrasing a wish.

We might be able to avoid using it for this (there are other things I'd like to wish for) but in case it ends up coming down to this...

My party is on a deadline, and we're out of resources with the nasty half of the dungeon in front of us as near as we can tell. I've got a "use once and that's it" wish that I and only I can use, and what I'd like to wish for is for us to have had the equivalent of one night's rest, so that everybody has their spells back in full for us to keep pushing on.

Any suggestions on phrasing, or if you think I'm "overwishing"? The DM isn't TOO much of a RBDM, so I don't think he's going to really pick it apart, but you never know.

(The character in question has an 18 Int and a 16 Wis, so he's definitely capable of thinking these things through. Me, myself, I'm not so good at that kind of thing...)

Talk to your DM and say, "This is what my character wants to wish for. Since my character's better at this stuff than me, how does he think he should phrase it?"

Use the wish to spoof a magnificent mansion. Most DMs will let you get away with duplicating a spell as a untwistable wish since it's right there in the description.

Alternately, lower your standards:

I'll make a wish that can't backfire. I wish for a turkey sandwich, on rye bread, with lettuce and mustard, and, <and> I don't want any zombie turkeys, I don't want to turn into a turkey myself, and I don't want any other weird surprises. You got it?

The problem is, we don't have time for a "normal" night's sleep due to the deadline - heck, even giving one or two characters a "full" night's sleep would be plenty. Our party Wizard, who is using the spell point rules from Unearthed Arcana, nova'ed (and I really need to smack him, he keeps doing that) and burned out all his spell points on several targets where he didn't really need to. The party Cleric has run most of her spells down as well.

The other problem is our DM isn't the kind of guy to just handwave and say "okay, your character is smart enough to do this" - he'll want to hear the actual phrasing of the wish. He has hinted that such a wish would be acceptable, if phrased appropriately.

Eesh. Unless your DM is generous (which by your brief description he doesn't appear to be) or wants the party to have this benefit, I'd expect any such wish to simply fail. You're essentially wishing for an eight hour time stop effect that will affect the whole party; that's far more powerful than a ninth level spell.

Playing with time in any magical respect is tricky and usually limited to a few subjective rounds at most. I can't think of any way around it, special wording or not. Even, for instance, if there were some other plane in which time moved slower and the wish could transport everyone there, asking for a free round trip with an eight hour stop-over would be too much for a single wish in my opinion.

Hm. I don't know the nature of your time-sensitive mission; would it be possible to somehow wish that it (whatever it is) be delayed or postponed somehow?

You could phrase it something like:

"I wish that our company, the Stalwart Blades of the North*, receive all applicable benefits and gains as if we had slept for a full eight hours, including the restoration of our health and full spell power."

* - or whatever you call yourselves

If the DM is willing to give you this benefit, a decently phrased Wish will work; if not, then no matter the wording he'll pervert it.

Go with Rhun's wording.

I've always ruled that the wish ends with the use of the word "and."

I agree with what others have said. What you want is too much for the wish spell. If your DM allows it, so be it. I wouldn't. If anything, just use the wish to mass-teleport the group to a safe location where the group can keep watch, rest, rememorize, etc. I could live with that.

Necromancer Games to the Rescue

There is a seventh-level spell in Eldritch Sorcery from Necromancer Games wherein every ten minutes within the spell's area of effect seems like a full hour. In Eighty Minutes you could get 8 hours' worth of rest, recover spells, heal, etc.

P.S. Eldritch Sorcery book: mmmmmm, tasty!

You could always use it to simulate a Nap spell.

Alternatively, you could use the wish for an instant death spell on the 1/2 dragon.

Good luck! (in general, not just with the wish.)
