Need help picking a system for my campaign!

Grim Tales would be great for this type of campaign.

I'll second this particular nomination of Grim Tales, and suggest Elements of Magic: Mythic Earth for the magic system. I think it would work splendidly, as I am doing much the same with a planetary romance/sword and planet campaign with similar game mechanical needs.

Hope this helps,

I'll reiterate my pref for HERO.

I know you say you're pressed for time- what adult isn't?- you should consider that almost any one of the games that is in print will have a significant online presence. By that, I mean that if you look around, you'll find yahoo groups or message boards that will probably have all kinds of builds you can use in your campaign.

And HERO is no different.

Besides, there is always the option of taking a published PC or critter with printed stats and changing its name or tweeking a power- always a time-saver, that.

True20 with various other d20 ports (now an obsolete rulesset IMO, but still very light and fast - however, importing stuff is more difficult)
I am interested as to why you think True20 is an obsolete ruleset?

I'd lean toward D6 or Savage Worlds, but would also consider Mutants and Masterminds and HERO, depending on the level of crunch that you like. I think any of them would get the job done to your satisfaction.
