It does, however, present the danger of having your ironwood dispelled at an inopportune time. Also, I don't know that I would allow plain old wooden plate armor to be Crafted into +1 or better armor -- so you might be stuck casting ironwood every week or so, and magic vestment every day (and foregoing ghost touch or fortification altogether).

As long as its masterwork, why not ? And check the transmute metal to wood spell description for the details on wooden armour.. its still bad to have it dispelled, sure, but its not a character breaker by any means.
