With enough warning just the lesser red wizards are enough to probably kill a PC or two especially if they are combat oriented. Honestly that level of power pretty much would be a Zulkir making a major play for power which hopefully for your PCs means it will attract other power groups such as Khelben and Laeral because otherwise unless your PCs are seriously munchy they are beyond dead.

They have plenty of oportunity and the resourses to get the Harpers and Waterdeep Lords involed. They help Waterdeep fight back an invasion of Undead (Sent by the BlackGuard here).
When a few of them die I expect them to go running and get help or they will die trying to organise their defeat.
But as all evil will do if the party does enough damage up front the leaders will exit to safety and let the minors play with them.
