Need help with a kuo-toa city adventure

I am dm'ing an underdark campaign set in the world of Faerun, and recently hit a writer's block, while developing a certain part of the campaign, where the characters visit a kuo-toa city in search of a powerful magical item.

The party consists of a wide variety of races from different cultures: a female drow necromancer from a noble house /very interested in the surface world, secretly worships Kiaransalee/, a male half-drow shade cleric of Shar /from Tulthantar, religious advisor to the shadovar ambassador in Menzoberranzan/, a whisper gnome psion /member of a mercenary company/, a skulk rogue /mercenary from the same company, capable scout/, fey'ri sorcerer /mercenary, the same company/ and several more, but these are the most important ones (present on every game session ;)).

The problems are:
A) I cannot find any printed adventure, aside from CotSQ, featuring anything close to a kuo-toa city,
B) the party is still about three days away (they have a small army with them, sent from Menzoberranzan - 22 drow soldiers on lizard steeds, 24 orcs, 4 bugbears, 23 goblin archers) from the city,
C) on the last session they were attacked (random encounter) by four chameleon cave trolls (a template which gives cool hide bonus and a long tongue :p) and their pet fiendish deinonychus, but all they managed to do was buthcher 8 goblins and die from the psionic blasts and mace blows from the cleric, the others were too far to get involved (not that they were needed or something :erm:)

I would like help with:
A) as above
B) I am bent on throwing at least one encounter maybe a tiny sub-quest and an encounter, any ideas will be welcomed !!
C) Again, I am having problems with devising opponents that would not be chew toys for these guys...(each member's ECL is 9)

All ideas and suggestions welcomed !! :)

The 3rd book from AD&D Box set, Night Below, titled "The Sunless Sea" is exactly what you are looking for. It is aboleth ran underdark city set in the middle of an underground lake, but the main population are kuo-toa.

I'm confused as to how all those creatures, especially the lizard steeds, are expected to enter a kuo-toa city. Isn't the city going to be underwater? If you simply want some inspiration, China Mieville's Scar has an underwater city.

Regarding B and C, I assume that the PC's are much higher level than the rest of the group. So, anything thrown at the whole entourage will either destroy most of the army or not provide a challenge.

Well, I assumed (based on CotSQ experience) that this city will have a series of caves above water level, where the kuo-toa can interact (ex. trade) with non-aquatic creatures.

The support group consists of:
1x 10th level wizard - a noble from one of the houses, he isn't going to lift a finger to help the party but will try not to harm them (too much) while protecting himself
1x 9th level cleric/rogue - as above, a female that already flirted with (and shared a more intimate moment) the half-drow shade, she considers males as instruments which can be used to obtain various things.
2x 4th level sergeant - two pure fighters, two fighter/wizards
20x 2nd level soldiers - pure fighters
slave force - 24 orc warriors, 4 bugbears, 23 goblin warriors

Necromancer has a module (Tomb of Abysthor, I think?) that features a (somewhat smallish) community of Kuo-toa.

Hopefully you can take a look in there for some helpful tidbits.

Ok, here's what I got so far:

1) "Shrine of the Kuo-Toa" - brilliant module, I'll be leaving it for now and trying to rework it into a real kut-toa city, similar in scale to Menzoberranzan ,
2) "Tomb of Abysthor" - neat, but too small, I'll be definitely keeping this one though :),
3) "Night Below" - that hit the mark, exactly what I was aiming for, some slight changes and it's ready to go !!! :D

Now, how about someone helps me with some encounter ideas along the way, especially, should I make those trolls part of some bigger sub-quest ??

All input welcome as usual !! :D

If you don't mind converting 1E material to whatever edition you are playing, the Encyclopedia Suberranica describes 50 different fan-developed underdark encounter areas. You might be able to find something that fits the bill out of all those choices. That document is part of an ongoing collaborative project over at the Dragonsfoot boards, the home discussion thread being here. My own contributions (which haven't been added to the document yet) to the underdark development project can be found here, including a fairly large underdark city (sorry, not a kuo-toa one), and a huge layered pdf regional map of Greyhawk's underdark (although there is no reason why you couldn't use the basic layout in any world).
