Need help with Diplomacy Smackdown

First Post
My Sor 15 is taking the Leadership feat and wants to get a cohort who is a master of propaganda (Bluff and Diplomacy). What do you think are good character concepts for this? The cohort can be 14th level, any class, I was thinking bard.

Using core rules (+Psionics Handbook) only, can anyone give me any suggestions?

Bard is the best. High Cha, maxed out ranks, skill focus, 5 ranks in both bluff and sense motive for the synergy bonuses, and then manufacture an item that gives +30 to the diplomancy skill.:D

Funny you should ask, there is a diplomacy smackdown (loosely applied term). It's in the Sultan's of Smack thread, just take off the last couple of levels.

Jeremy,

Thanks, I just printed it out and will be sure to use it! BTW, what is a buckler of command, is it a core item?

Command is an enchantment from Defenders of the Faith that can be placed on either shields or armor. It grants a +4 competence bonus to Charisma, +2 morale bonus to the Will Saves of allies within 30 feet and causes a -8 (?) penalty to Hide checks.

Pick and choose what you want (/can have) from the smackdown. You won't be at +200 or whatever his check was, but by learning from all his ideas, you can definately get where your headed with like a +40 or check.

If you have the Rokugan sourcebook, they have a Courtier PC class that kicks ass. They are the masters of social interaction, but cannot fight. They would make a great cohort in any non-combat situation.

The Herald prestige class that's in one of the Dragon Annuals is also really good -- it has a couple exclusive spells that can be used to pump Bluff/Diplomacy checks.. A 10/10 bard herald who had pulled off a 30 Charisma could pull off a +57 or so on the check (for about 400 minutes a day or so).

For a host of more fun, have the 14th level character take leadership. With his high Chr for diplomacy he will have a 13th level cohort. Rinse and repeat and you have just gotten yourself a small army.

A small army of high Cha diplomats? OH NO ITS LAWYER D20!

The Diplomat smackdown is good, but I'd probably argue that a Telepath1/Sor5/Mindbender8 is better. After all, Mindbender bonuses can give you a net +18 to Diplomacy, FULLY STACKABLE.
