D&D 3E/3.5 Need Help with lvl Adj in D&D 3.5

i need to make a 4th lvl PC but id like to use a race that has a lvl adj.
i want to make a 1/2 dragon fighter but it looks to me the charicter would be a 1/2 dragon lvl 1 fighter with 14 hp right? or do i roll up a 4th lvl fighter and add the race to it but lvl as if im 7th lvl?

also i was thinking that traiding its breath weapon and natural attacks to make it a lvl adj of 2, does that sound fair?

Assuming your character has a(n adjusted) Con modifier of +4, that's correct.

I don't think so. The natural attacks are the least interesting part of the template and the breath weapon is only relevant at low levels. The high stat bonuses are where the meat is.

But ultimately that is something you'd have to ask your DM about.

In case you haven't seen it, in Draconomicon there's also a toned down variant of the Half-Dragon: The Draconic template. It only has a +1 level adjustment, so maybe it's a better choice for you.

ive looked in the Draconomicon but i only found the draginkin and wher it says to refer to the MM for 1/2 dragons. could u give me a page #?

total piggyback/hijack off the draconic template answer ...

has anyone done conversions of the other templates? like the elemental, alignment (axiomatic/anarchic), or draconic templates? Or even the dire template from tToH (The Tomb of Horrors)

I would guess you'd follow the fiendish/celestial styles and change the language to fit PF ... a +2 spot means a +2 perception.

and I was thinking instead of the dire template from tToH ... go with advanced and giant templates plus whatever HD you think is necessary (+50 %, min of 3 HD?)
