Need idea(s) for a Paladin's atonement quest

I have a charater in the kid's game I DM who has lost his paladinhood. This was at the end of Forge of Fury.

He is Barbarian 2 / Paladin 3. He did something very not paladin-like and list his paladinhood. So, he lost Rage when he changed alignment, and has now lost all paladin abilities. His fall was thus: he attacked another party member, refusing to identify himself as she stood watch. (I think he did this for out-of-game reasons: he is 7 and his sister's character was the one on watch. :p ) He probably thought it would be funny. But I made him pay the price (in game) since it was an in-game action. I had warned everyone previously about in-fighting, that it was not to be tolerated. (We had a minor incident with two other players.)

I've been trying to think of a quest he can go on, but I don't deal with paladins that often, and I'm stumped. Any suggestions for a quest that a young player can deal with? Published products are fine, or just an idea I can flesh out, or anything in between. This will be a "side game" and the player will continue with the main group with a different character. Two other characters are going with him on the quest (another paladin and a cleric). Both paladins follow Hieroneous, and the cleric is a follower of Corellon Larethian.

Oh, yeah, they fled from the dragon at the end of Forge and all lived but one. This incident was after that--they were all done and he went and did this. :(

Ordinarily, I'd say have the paladin's church send him on a quest. For me, the temptation would be in this case to teach the player a lesson and have him do something to atone to the character he attacked or the party in general. Maybe he has to serve his sister's character as a squire for a while? If this isn't your kid though, you may not be comfortable giving "object lessons" to him.

For the first option, have the temple send him on a quest to destroy some ancient evil or recover a holy relic. Then make him give his share of the treasure to charity. That should sting him a little but not TOO much. He gets his paladin abilities back, but falls behind the group in wealth and magic items because they got to keep theirs.

Hope this helps.

if you're planning on running the next WotC mod, it's Speaker in Dreams (right ?). you could make the atonement quest tie into an adventure hook from the mod

-the Paladin must travel to Brindinford to seek out someone who's gone missing (hook #3)

or, the Paladin could be sent to recieve his quest from from Alein, the paladin at the shrine to Heironeous in Brindinford, and start the adventure ('Fair goes Foul') as soon as they get into town

Good ideas, thanks.

It's my son, but even if it wasn't, I'd have no qualms about giving a little "object lesson"--that's the price they pay to play in my game.

Making him serve the other character.....wow-that's good. I'm getting the giggles just thinking about it, but he's probably too young to role play that effectively. Not to mention that the other player (his older sister) would really play it up and drive him nuts. Drat, if only he was a little older, I would use that!

Wow, I had completely ignored that module because I wasn't planning on running it. I'll take another look at it. Thanks for the ideas!

I imagine really young kids are tough to DM in that regard. You could always offer him and his sister a nice XP award as incentive if they roleplay it properly. Who knows?
