Need info on Shifters (the quasi-lycanthropes)

Klaus

First Post
The Eberron CS is still soooo far away for me, but I'd like some info on the Shifters, the half-lycanthrope-like race (did I get the name right?).

What are their racial traits? Does it matter what kind of lycanthrope they're descended from? What powers do a weretiger-descendent get, if any?

Thanks for the help!

Shifters...

Shifters get to take feats based on thier heritage.. things like gaining a bite attack, or longer stride. There is alot of variety in it.

Drop by your local gaming/book store and flip through the pages...

No book in Local Game Stores (or rather, Local Game Store, as in "only one in a city of 6 million people")...

What are the racial traits of the Shifters?

shapechanger subtype
+2 Dex, -2 Int, -2 Cha

Shifting (Su): A shifter can tap into her lycanthropic heritage to gain short bursts of physical powers. Once per day, a shifter can enter a state that is superficially similar to a barbarian's rage. Each shifter has one of six shifter traits-characteristics that manifest themselves when a character is shifting. Each shifter trait provides a +2 bonus to one of the character's physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution) and grants some other advantage as well.
Shifting is a free action and lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3+Con modifier. (If a shifter trait or other effect increases the character's Con modifier, use the newly improved modifier.) A shifter can take feats to improved this ability. These shifter feats are described in the book.
Every shifter feat a character takes increases the duration of shifting by 1 round. For every two shifter feats a character takes, the number of times per day she can tap into the ability increases by one.
Shifting, though related to and developed from lycanthropy, is neither an affliction nor a curse. It is not passed on by bite or claw attacks, and a shifter can't be cured-shifting is a natural ability for the race.

Favored Class: Ranger

Shifters are basically descended from lycanthropes in general, not any one specific lycanthrope. Basically it is the intermingling of the species over time and you can't really state my grandfather was a weretiger and mommy was a wererat. Your talking generations and generations of mixing. Hope this helps. There are several different shifter traits the shifter can take, each provides a differing bonus or ability and relates to specific ability scores. You can only choose one trait, but later on it is possible to take more traits.

Shifter Traits:

Beasthide (Su): +2 to Con and natural armor
Longtooth (Su): +2 Str and grows fangs (1d6 damage plus 1/4 levels)
Cliffwalker (Su): +2 Dex and climb speed 20'
Razorclaw (Su): +2 Str and grow claws (1d4 damage plus 1/4 levels). Attack with 1 claw is a standard action, 2 claws as full round action. Cannot attack more than once with a single claw in a round, much like creatures with a natural attack.
Longstride (Su): +2 Dex and +10 movement speed
Wildhunt (Su): +2 Con and the scent ability

Each shifter has one of the special traits which is selected when the character is created and cannot be changed. There are several shifter feats that alter these abilities and can grant others.

just to add - the shifter traits < i.e "Beasthide (Su): +2 to Con and natural armor" > are only in effect while you are shifting.
