The playing enviroment is two players, one is 14, the other is 12. the younger one is a girl the older one is a guy. and the both of them HAVE made plans to play every wednesday but when wednesday comes round they are too preoccupied with other things regardless of their saying they would play, i need help because this is driving me mad...

G'day, Larxeno!

Are you and the two troublesome players the entirity of your group?

You might be in trouble. Regardless of how much they may say they want to play, the actuality of the situation seems to be otherwise.

Have you noticed that they enjoy certain types of encounter more than others? There are a wide range of playing styles in D&D (see DMG2 for a discussion of some), so it's hard to offer specific advice without knowing more about the situation.

Cheers!

Whoops left out one significant detail that depresses me to no end, due to me being a simple newbie DM.

the two players and i have only settled down for ONE session only no more, nada, zilch. I even tried to entice them back by giving the wizard player a White dragon familiar!!, and following the story-line in which she herself suggested, i got the feeling that she wanted to DOMINATE the initial storyline. its been a good two weeks since that session and boy its killing me.

Maybe they don't want to play. :heh:

Already played D&D before? (you)

If the answer is yes: consider getting two more players
If the answer is no: consider getting into a game, compare it with your DMing

First, it sounds like she's story-oriented. Girls always are. ;)

Anyways, if they don't wanna play, they don't wanna play. There's very little you can do. I'd suggest trying to either find another group of players, or trying to play online (always fun)(.

...sigh, thanks everyone. They just expressed the desire to NOT play just a few minutes ago... and yes i am going to find a new group to either DM, or just play under.

Hey, look at it this way. Who would WANT to play with people who won't enjoy it and won't get into the game? And groups can be found ANYWHERE, even if you feel that NOBODY you knows would be interested. My most recent group I'm DMing for, a bunch of newbies, were people I never thought would be interested.

Also, it's often (though not always) best to start as a player and learn from a more experienced DM. I've taught dozens of other players who wanted to become DMs, and all have gone on to have appreciative groups. Look for a DM near you who wouldn't mind guiding you, letting you run a few of his sessions, basically testing the waters and helping you with any mistakes.
