Charnel Fire???
What's that, where can I find an explenation.

Book of Vile Darkness, 5th level cleric spell that consumes a corpse in charnel fire, preventing Raise Dead or Resurrection.

Rereading the spell, even that doesn't bar True Resurrection. Gah.

Stupid True Resurrection spell :)

So there might be flaws in the reasoning...

-- When universally applied, yeah. I maintained from the start that this was kind of a bass-ackward way of dealing with the situation...starting with the ruling I wanted, and working backwards through the actual rules justifications. It's necessarily situational. It'll naturally break down if it becomes a universal law of magic. :)

--Normally I dislike doing things that way, but I still think it's easier than going in and adjusting the level of Ennervation and the CR scores of every level and Con draining monster there is because they can permakill ya.

I don't know that having a less esoteric way to kill someone forever is a Bad Thing.

-- Actually, I agree. It's not a Bad Thing. Not as long as it's made clear up front that that's the case, and that appropriate changes to threat levels are made to compensate. If you feel having those less esoteric ways to permakill is worth the extra work, and will add something to the game, more power to you. I've no problem with that. :)

I think there needs to be a 7th (or maybe 9th) level version of Charnel Fire that can prevent True Res, though.

Something like And Stay Down!... Abjuration or Necromancy.
