Neglected Monsters

Um... I'm not sure which point you think I just made :)

maybe i was reaching for teh funney then...

i got the idea of arcane-spellcaster players choking the designers of 3.5 over all the spell changes. ;) or maybe they were choking when they saw the new PHB... i don't know, maybe i was just tired. :)

Hi,

Let's see....

I've used chuuls a couple of times -- they're in Deep Horizon and I used them in the Otobo Jungles of Hepmonaland. They're pretty nasty.

There is a delver in Hell in Freeport which I'm running and a tojanida in Madness in Freeport which I've run twice. I have also used yrthaks.

I use beholders quite a lot -- along with mind flayers, demons & devils, undead and a bunch of others, they're up there as favourites.

I used a choker and (get this!) an ethereal filcher in a recent dungeon adventure. The latter monster ran off with the wizard's wand of magic missiles and had to be tracked down to its lair and dealt with. However, the only reason I used both of these is that they were little used.

My vote goes to the Yeth Hound.

Cheers

Richard

Oh - no, not where I was going at all.

A wizard shapechanged into a Choker can get his three spells per round again. (One standard action, one extra standard action from Quickness [Su], and one quickened spell...)

Also - shock lizards. Who uses these pikachu ripoffs?

I believe the only time I used these lil buggers was in "The Hunt for the Great Yellow Shocker Lizard" (which had an odd cry- "Pika!!!" It was beautiful to see that thing die.)

... but I'd like to add another aberration to the pile- the athach. I have never even heard of these non-giants getting played.

Demiurge out.

I've used athaches in my adventures, Demiurge. Man, they are nasty! Consider replacing an ogre or two with them and see how the party responds. The three-armed attack thingy, coupled with a poison bite is just brutal...

BTW, I believe there is one in Monte Cook's Return to the Temple of Everlasting DM Frustration - I mean Elemental Evil. Yeah, that's it! ;)

Also, flumphs, stirges, destrachan, phasms, phantom fungi, shocker lizards (except in the module mentioned above), and terrasques get no love. I'm sure there are plenty more, but those are the ones from the MM (and ToH) that I can think of. Other books are a whole new ballgame...

I kinda wonder why everyone thinks shocker lizards are pikachu ripoffs.

Except from being small animals with an electric attack, they don't have anything in common. Pikachu seems more like some sort of mammalian, a rabbit/hamster thing.

You could as well say that electric eels are pikachu ripoffs.

You're reading too much -- shocker lizards, like yrthaks, are merely attemps to have monsters more mundane than dragons or outsiders with energy attacks.

Also, as someone stated early on, Shocker Lizards came out a LONG time before that crap called Poke'mon and Pikachu. So... I wish people would realize that because something is on TV now doesn't mean it came first.

Which came first... The Chicken or the egg? Or the critique who tells everyone their wrong?
