nevermind

I still lament for my Windows 10 Phone. Windows Phone was a wonderful thing, worked seamlessly with my desktop, and the Windows Phone platform was ahead of the curve on many technologies that Apple claims as their own (as Apple does with so much that they didn't create, but rather rebranded).
Apple is basically a cult

In any case, the smartphone OSes have led to a decline in software quality. They seem universally less functional, less customizable, and less good at what they do than programs written for comparably fast laptops and desktop computers, and they're slowly dragging said laptops and desktops down with them

And, somewhat ironically, more powerful than a Shadowrun 1e Personal Assistant.

Since this thread is no title-less and aim-less... It's no more than a few (10?) years ago that the game Eclipse Phase was released. It featured people with Muses, electronic assistant able to deal with the daily things (domotic control, mailing, ordering things for you...) It was very sci-fi. Nowadays I think we'll get in the next cellphone... (except maybe the neural link to discuss with your muse by thought).

So for you, the effectiveness of nuclear deterrance is a net negative? I am afraid the two superpowers would have come to fight each other without it, and it didn't take nuclear weapons to raze Germany. Old school pointy sticks are very effective.
That's arguably a part of the reason why they're bad.

Ask a hunter gatherer how many women and babies die in childbirth or children before the age of 5. Yes we have problems and many are self inflicted but there was never a time in the past that was better to live in than now.
Maybe 2015

That's just slander. Apple Intelligence told me so!

Unfortunately old PC OSes do not port directly to a phone. The kernel has to be written to the hardware

Can't they emulate the old hardware?

and the UI has to be specific to mobile.

I'm pretty sure a touchscreen could trivially be turned into a touchpad

As for a specific technologies cookies seems like a good suggestion. Social media less so, because, uh, this forum is social media? Would crippling cookies have the effect of crippling online advertising systems? Because I definitely think that if you could kill variable online ads that would be a big deal and completely change incentives for the entire online ecosystem.
Until that time we can fight it on our end by using ad blockers. Blokada and Netguard seem to work well on Android

followed by Android. Which is linux adapted to mobile.

And also tampered with to prevent removing Google's bloatware and spyware. I wish someone sold a phone that ran real linux

Preventing cookies completely would kill all web applications, including forums. Outlawing persistent cookies would probably kill most online applications, mobile app, a lot of online analytics and tracking.

It almost sounds like you think killing analytics and tracking would be a bad thing

Crippling cookies would cripple your ability to log into a site and be you. That info is typically cookie-based.

Such a situation would not necessarily be entirely unworkable, although it admittedly would create insurmountable problems for online banking and for the "shopping cart" function of online stores (I think the stores themselves might still be able to work fine, but the entire checkout process would have to be condensed into a single page)
