Nevewinter Night's "The Witch's Wake" and "Shadows of Undrentide"

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The Witch's Wake, Part 1: The Fields of Battle (the beginning module of a new official campaign from Bioware) is now available - you can either download it using the in-game update program, or you can manually download it from here. :cool:

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Also, the official expansion pack for the game has been announced (Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide), which should hit stores in the Spring of 2003. :)

The Witch's Wake isn't too bad but I don't like the fact that you don't get XP for killing monsters. Come on this is D&D! It's the foundation of the whole XP system! Even 1 or 2 xp for some of those kobolds or rats would have been fine! :D
 

The foundation of the XP system is overcoming challenges not killing monsters :)

As long as getting past the kobolds was the challenge, then you should get the XP for killing them once you get past them (which is what I thought it did).

I appreciate keeping a nice tight rein on the XP given out in NWN as I found it too easy to level.

I think Witches Wake does a good job of bridging that '
Computer - RPG' Gap that a lot of gamers complain about. It is by far a better implementation of the role playing aspect and promise of the Neverwinter Nights toolset.

I completely agree with the leveling up issue.. the Original campaign shoveled EXP at you, and actually didn;t award full XP by MM rules since there were soooo many encounters.

I am actually tempted to quit my current game of NWN and switch to the new campaign. I hope you are right since I have not been happy with what right now is just a hackfest that was done better in Diablo. Neverwinter seemed to be in much more trouble than the plauge as I singlehandedly killed off a couple of hundred townfolk.
 

I actually never bothered very much with the single player campaign in NWN. Didn't really feel like D&D to me.

I had a lot of fun running my own online campaign for a few weeks, but basically it came down to time limits - work on my pen and paper RPG or my NWN one. Well, despite the advances of the NWN Toolset, pen and paper is still easier and more fullfilling.

All that said (so you understand my perspective), the WW series looks very promising, BUT this first chapter is very short. I've read comments that it would take you 2 - 5 hours to finish (I think I did it in 2).

Some of the persistent worlds - if they do good roleplay - might be a better choice than the single player campaign.

I will shortly get the chance to see how it works as a true roleplay tool. Our second DM who is not currently running something is setting up a second campaign for us in NWN. Hopefully its potential will be relized there beter than the single player hackfest.
