That's just it. We find a group of folks who really want to try this, and then organize a "world-building' group....each person 'designs' a realm/country/kingdom and as whole we make it compatible and consistent...it might start as a detailed forum thread, then a forum, then a website...(some of that may already be available)...as the world is designed and grows, games could be played in it, with a growing history...it is an ambitious idea, this is a very early pre-liminary stage, but I've garnered interest from other forums already as well...any ideas folks have had in thier heads can be c&c'd and then.....it's not an overnight thing, but the idea is to create something that stands out....still any germs of interest...???

So what are we dealing with though? Is it going to all be generic DnD or is it up to the different regions to decide that?

I'll try and work on some basic ideas for a region after I wake up, sleep time now.

Lately, I've been thinking of 'making a world', but, as busy as life & work is, I dont know if I have the time for a 'whole' world', but a country/region may be more likely. I already have an idea for an area in mind----but I'll share later:):p

I'm interested too

I recomend each "creator" designs a 600 mile wide (corner to opposite corner) hex (ends up being about the size of France or Texas).

Well, since you were nice enough to draw maps for Urbis, I'd be glad to help you out here a bit. ;)

When I built Urbis, it helped that I had one big idea that truely shaped the world ("It is possible through magical architecture to convert some of the life force of those who live nearby into magical energies - hence, lots of really big cities were built to gather as much life force as possible) - after I came up with the idea, many of the details practically wrote themselves. So we should look for one or two ideas that make this world truely different from most, if not all other D&D settings out there.

On the other hand, we shouldn't attempt to rewrite the PHB, DMG, and MM just for change's sake - for once, this would create more work than it is worth. And it would also require too much work to "get into" the setting for someone interested in using it.

Change specific aspects of the D&D rules, sure. But make them few, and make them count!

Now the only have to look for that Big Idea... :D

Well, I'm impressed at the interest! Rest assured, I do NOT propose creation of a new game system- Jurgen is exactly right. Unique does not mean 'reinvent the wheel!' And, the idea here is to enable folks like NarlethDrider to create a 'section' of a world, and act as a 'keeper' of that section, relaying events of that section so that the 'cause and effect' of events that may or may not effect other 'sections' of the world....Gamemasters(read, DM's)
could run games here so that the PC's would experience an environment that changes consistently...If 'section A' declared war on 'section B' at some point, the changes would be reflected through the communication of 'section keepers',(I had a better term for that, I was thinking 'Governors'...), and players would notice around them in games that things were changing constantly, but logically...
Whew, that may have confused you, but I hope my train of thought did not de-rail...
BTW,This is not intended to be 'My Site' or 'My World', or 'My Campaign", but a group effort-"Ours"....
Think of "The Forgotten Realms"....originally a simple Campaign World created by a couple of gamers, it has mushroomed into a cottage industry...this may or may not do that, but it could be a hell of lot of creative fun...and a great place to while away our "leisure time".....
If you're still intrigued....let us all know!
