Much to the displeasure of the many who don't want to go to the DDI. ;)

For my case, it's not that I don't want to go to the DDI; on the contrary, I'd very much like it to be an excellent product. But I haven't seen anything that's really convincing me (yet) that it's worth the price of admission. We'll see in June!

I think the ultimate value of DDI will be determined by how often extras are added. If I get a new class with its paths, a new race, and some interesting monsters a month at a minimum I will be fairly pleased with the service.

A big part of the value, for me, is ALL the rules from every book available, instantly on release. I have no interest in the VTT, but I like the Dun and Drag articles so far. So between the rules and articles I think it will be at least worth a years trial

The stream of content is important to me.

But I'm also wary that a Dm wouldn't let me use anything on it. Just like how some DMs won't let you use stuff out of Dragon Magazine, or book x, etc.

Yeah, but you can point them to the 'this is all official core' announcement by WotC. Still, some DMs like to have all the rules at the start of campaign creation and fix them in concrete at that point. I know the feeling, I used to do that but I try to be as flexible as possible with my players now. I try not to take my own campaign too seriously, it is as much the players as minw (as DM) IMO

Hmm. I remember starting the game in the arena and just insulting the arena master and getting fight after fight. You level up pretty quickly and the game is pretty much a cakewalk from then on. You just have to stop and rest and start a new series of fights before the really big desert monsters come out and squash you, at least until you've leveled enough.

I pulled this one out last year and replayed. It was one of the few early D&D games with wall of fire and swarm spells that actually. Actual lasting effects on the computer screen was a nice step up from the gold box games.
I just reinstalled it last night and played for a few hours. It definitely did make more sense than before but was still a little bit confusing and hard - not so much in terms of the combats being overwhelming but more in terms of not really knowing what to do or where to go or what you need to keep for later, etc. It would have been nice to have some sort of quest diary or something like all RPGs have these days to keep you on track.

It was said Matallic Dragons would not be in the 1st Draconomicon - not the MM.
Where was that said? Massawyrm's 4e review stated quite clearly that there were no metallics in the first MM. No one's seen the first Draconomicon, but it's pretty obvious it won't have metallics because its subtitle is "Chromatic Dragons".

Speaking of which - when is the Maori version of the core rulebooks coming out? That would be kapai.
LOL. Was I the only one who noticed the blatant Te Reo rip-off in the Book of Nine Swords? One of the legacy weapons is named "Ka Mate", which according to ToB is goblin for "it is death" ... Ahem.

I seen to recall that back in the day I had a doorway in sigil that led to half a spelljammer floating in an asteroid belt somewhere. The players didn't know what to make of it.

This right here? This is brilliant. I love this.
Thanks!

And I know you're on the inside for some WotC work, so if you have any chance to pass this idea to the right people, consider this permission (and a request!) to do so! :)

I wouldn't mind seeing some small connections between Spelljammer (or Astraljammer if it goes that way) and Planescape.

We could have some of the various factions and dialects be sprinkled about amongst the crew of ships. Have crews when not travelling travel amongst the planes, perhaps head to Sigil.

Or we could have other locations, besides Sigil where ships dock. They could be Dominions or other bodies that rift partially out into space or have planar-travel into other Crystal Spheres, etc.

I think it be personally quite neat to see neat little hints going back between the two settings.

My problem is that I know with certainty that I won't use 90% of what they release on DDI. As a DM I really love coming up with my own stuff (it's fully 1/2 the fun of this hobby to me), so I never have enough game-time to work in "official" stuff. So while that last 10% may be useful, it's probably not useful enough to buy the whole thing. If they do release some Planescape or other good setting material on DDI, I really hope there's an opportunity to buy a single PDF for $1.95 or some other reasonable price (depending on length and that kind of stuff).
