I, OTOH, think those two things would be hella-sweet!

As a fun, unofficial "one-off"? Sure.

As the default assumption of the various settings in question. Nuh-uh.

Which is why I have no problem with the notion of a Planescape that includes versions of all the D&D worlds that are interconnected--as long as that assumption doesn't carry over to those worlds when presented outside the Planescape context.

This is why I like the idea of "slotted settings." Essentially the campaign setting has a main frame which gives a basic feel, idea, theme for the setting. Then each chapter after that is devoted to various "setting slots" that can be put into your setting as you feel appropriate.

While I haven't seen incidences of this with campaign settings beyond "haze-past" and plot hooks. I have seen it with various organizations and races, ie: VII. It works quite well.

One I would like to see is a technological setting, with each slot being a different level of technology. So from 1600's to 1890's. Each major change in technology would be a different setting slot.

Yeah, this is what I was getting at.

Interesting...

Strike Me Instead Justiciar Utility 12 said:
Daily * Divine
Immediate Interrupt Personal
Trigger: An ally within 5 squares of you is attacked
Effect: The attack misses all of your allies it targets, but automatically hits you even if you weren't a target of this attack.
(emphasis mine)

I missed that bit about "all your allies" when I first read that power. Unless I'm mistaken this means that justiciar can rid all of his allies of the effects of an area of effect spell
...and hog all the acid wave goodness for himself :D (j/k)

This is so much cooler than merely taking a single blow for your team.

Yeah, that's pretty neat. A dragon swoops down and breathes fire all over the party, but you can use that power so that the dragons breath weapon hits you, alone. Pretty amusing... in a masochistic sort of way. :)

I didn't notice that as well, that is a great power for a Paladin (can't see many evil pals taking it tho!)
Edit:mmmmmmmmm evil paladins have to have that power, unless they multi-class or go hospitaler instead. And that is just as poor for an evil Pal 'unless he can choose to heal himself as an ally (IIRC he can?)

These philosophies are a bit simple and there isn't really a lot to debate. None of them really try to explain existence. They are more just moral outlooks (or lack thereof in the case of Gruumsh). I don't think having these as the main religious based philosophies in the world will lead to an awful lot of debate.

Heh.

Bahamut: we must invade _____ because its leader ______ is a dictator who tortures and oppresses his people.

Pelor: attacking without provocation means we will be the aggressor.

Erathis: but we have a duty to spread our ideals of justice and the rule of law.

Corellon: regardless, if we attack, we risk setting off an extended conflict which will lead to instability for years to come.

Bane: they started the fight, but we -- or I -- will finish it.

Hold on. Does this power mean that if an ally 5 squares away is targeted with a melee attack, you can get hit by the attack instead? How am I supposed to explain that in-game?

Man, I'm starting to feel like the Derren of divine powers.
