D&D 4E New 4e Info! GAMA Tradeshow Scoop

Another little tidbit from the thread I found interesting...

Bill Slavicsek mentioned those by name as what we'd see after Forgotten Realms and Eberron were out. Greyhawk is a definate, he said they were working on the books for it, and Dark Sun is one that he mentioned "we would see down the line". I don't know if he slipped up or if he wasn't 100% sure, but he sounded pretty confident.
Since the Greyhawk books are already being worked on, it sounds like there's a good chance they'll be the next setting in line to get an update!

The lifecycle of 4e will be 8-10 years. We already know that FR and Eberron will be up, and I think it is safe to say that Greyhawk and Dragonlance will be right up there. That most likely leaves four settings remaining. My guesses: Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Al-Qadim, and Kara-Tur, with an outside chance to Spelljammer and Mystara.

You know, while that's certainly possible, I'm not sure I'd bet on it. With FR and Eberron being the first two, I'd imagine that WotC would want the next one to be a little more "out there." FR and Greyhawk are, along with Mystara, the "generic" fantasy settings (I don't mean that in a bad way), and even Eberron isn't nearly as left field as the others. I think it's possible that WotC's going to want more than one year, and one campaign setting, between FR and GH.

If Dark Sun is still "down the road" and Dragonlance a "generic" setting by your standards, the only other really popular "out-there" setting is Planescape (or perhaps Ravenloft). As PS is my next most favorite setting I'd be perfectly happy with that too. Ravenloft is quite a bit less popular than the others so it doesn't strike me as likely we'll see it that soon.

But personally, I find it hard to believe they would bother to start working on a setting that is 3 years or more from release with everything else they're going to have on their plate.

Right, and I meant it in the sense that I was surprised people hadn't noticed the thread yet ...

Don't you mean "sweet ass"?
No, I don't. "Sweet as" is Kiwi slang. In fact, you could even say it's "Kiwi as". Just ask Mr Pants. He's the real Kiwi among us. I'm just an imposter. ;)

Nah, that is just excessive! ;)
LOL.

Despite its popularity, I really kind of doubt that PS will be released since it so much of it has been re-purposed in the new cosmology, it gained a lot of its effectiveness as a rather open meta-setting, and there does seem to be a measure of antipathy towards some of its more outre elements among the WoTC R&D staff.

There's always the possibility of a brand-new setting - I expect 4e will see at least one of those.

I'd rather like to see a brand new setting actually.

Personally, I'm not too keen on either Planescape or Spelljammer being revived but I would like to see Dark Sun come back. I don't really care one way or the other about Dragonlance (I'm very much in the "it's a one-story setting" camp).

You could certainly be right. I'm not prognosticating one way or the other. I just think it'd be an odd thematic choice for them to go FR to Eberron to GH.

(That, and I love any excuse to use words like "prognosticating.") ;)

Then again, I suppose if they have a strong sense that there's more of a market for GH than the others, that would certainly trump any thematic objections.
