Not sure how much I want a Magic Item Compendium, but if it's good I'll give it a look. Definitely not on my "must buy" list.

To me it depends on what type of magic items are in it. If it is more of the unique variety I will pick it up.

hmmm maybe that is why the DMG is so short :)

Heck, I thought Magic Items were going to be in the PHB.

I'm all for Compendiums.

Hell, give me a Spell Compendium and Monster Compendium for 4e that updates all the previous edition stuff. I'd buy it.

This game gets more and more expensive for beginners.
I very much doubt you will need MIC at the beginning (or ever for that matter). There will surely be some basic magic items in DMG.

I used to play WFRP v2, which has two magic items in the core rules, and the game is fine.

I think a few folks on the WotC boards, and here, are getting all worked up about nothing again.

The only thing the title "Magic Item Compendium I" implies is that there will eventually be a "Magic Item Compendium II" down the road at some point. It's not a "core" book in the sense of the PHB, DMG, and MM. Relax.

There will be plenty of magic items in the DMG. There might even be a few in the PHB. Your character won't be dependant on them to be effective, but that doesn't mean he/she won't want some new shiny things to play with.
