new 4E titles for Sept/Oct 2010

I'm definitely excited to see pictures of the Ravenloft box components. 40 D&D Minis-quality prepainted minis for $65 is a good deal even if I never get into the game.

PS: It's nice to see Gamma World in there as well. I like that they're trying to apply the 4e rules to different genres the same way they did with third edition. That's a good idea.

Another thought is that it is a compilation of all the Dragon "Magazine" and setting-specific feats/rules/classes/powers. They gave us a hardcover Dragon Annual already but this would be different. This would be marketed as a "core" book because it would contain but not present the setting-specific information as such.

And non-DDI subscribers would have access to all the tasty bits in print, which means many DDI subscribers would pick it up also. Yes, there are those of us that WotC double-dips quite often. I haven't picked up Eberron yet (and likely only pick up teh Player's Guide if I do) because everything I need is in the CB, but a compiled book would definitely interest me.

Wonder which other older TSR/WotC properties they will do a 4E "genre settings" treatment for.

- Urban Arcana
- Oriental Adventures
I think these two are good bets for getting the "genre setting" treatment. I hope for Al-Qadim, Maztica, Planescape, and Spelljammer, as well.

Based on comments by James Wyatt, I doubt we'll see Ravenloft . . . but I'd like to see them try Masque of the Red Death if this format works out.

One thing to consider is that this isn't just a box of minis; it's a game, too. The game itself could be worth money, as I doubt it will be just "D&D lite".

Another thing to consider is that I have not actively purchased D&D minis for about three years, now, so a repaint may not double up a miniature I already own.

:)

Ravenloft Board Game: Wow. Looks like WotC is finally going to get some money out of me for the first time in about three years.

Of course, they could always announce that they're doing a Dark*Matter Genre book and then right after its released cancel the whole line... ;)

What is it about Dark•Matter and Klingon sourcebooks that always leave me nursing a broken heart?

B-)

Indeed.

For me, the really important thing is that this is a boardgame, and I'm very much in a boardgame playing state of mind at present.

Hmm - considers: I've played on average 6 hours of RPGs each week for the past few months, and about 16 hours each week of boardgames... yes, boardgames are definitely winning!

Note also that it's only the first of a series of D&D-themed boardgames coming out (which should be compatible with each other) if I remember the discussion of them correctly! :)

Cheers!
