New (AVATAR) Episodes Begin Again Tonight In USA

Thank you for the correction. But here is something that I never considered with Ann.

I did not see him as a caucasin, it never once, crossed my mind.

I spent the better part of three years living in Asia. I know what Asians look like. Allowing for the stylized nature of the animation, Aang, with his complexion, eyes, and hair, could conceivably be Asian, but it's a stretch. His features are much more western. The same could be said of many characters in the series. Show a picture of Suki or Ty Lee to someone unfamiliar with the series and see if they find the character to have Asian features.

It's good that you're willing to allow for the Inuit influences at least, because now you need to just make the small adjustment of allowing for other non-Asian elements within the overall Asian imprint. It's a fantasy world, not a historical recreation. The show can play around with mixing influences, and it clearly does. It's no big deal.

I think you mean "ethnic". To fixate on Aang's race, to harp because he's being played by a caucasian, is to ignore the "main stance" of the series, which has always been about spirituality. How does race have a bearing on spirit?

Nothing wrong with that. Maybe when you see the film, the actor's ethnicity won't turn out to be worthy of consideration either. Maybe the actor will be so great in the role that it just doesn't matter.

Hmmm, maybe it would, if it wasn't broadly announce to the world. And the contrast of colour mentioned.

And I would be prefer a seasoned actor instead, and not a novice.

"Seasoned"? It's a part for a twelve-year-old boy. You want Dustin Hoffman should get the role maybe? Tom Hanks? Sir Anthony Hopkins?

Wait, I got it. Ben Kingsley! He played Gandhi in the 1982 movie, and not only did audiences accept the English actor playing the Indian icon, but they applauded him in the role. Won all kinds of awards and stuff. Stands to reason he could pull off a purely fictional spiritual leader.

But alas, I forget. That only worked because they didn't have the Internet back then. The indignation-inclined had no vehicle for ranting outside of shouting on subways (still popular amongst the poor and disenfranchised here in Atlanta). :.-(

Well, he is half-Indian at least. Besides, this casting rumour (or is it truth?) is more like casting all of the main characters from Ghandi with caucasians, rather than just the lead with a half-Indian actor.

Anyway, I'm not calling this Avatar casting racist, personally, I just think it is lame. I can handle Aang played by a white actor, but I'd really prefer it if they kept the racial diversity intact.
