Hi all, I've been lurking here and reading guides and stealing ideas for a long time, and just recently signed up.
I've been putting this class together over the last few weeks, with a lot of input from others online and some testing from my playing group. It's not perfect yet, but we've found it fun and usable, and I think it's in a good enough place to share for anyone interested in it. Definitely still open to any comments or feedback that you might have about it. Based on the desire of one of my players to play a World of Warcraft style shaman, here's what I have come up with.
The Shaman is a Wisdom-based half-caster, who summons totems to aid allies and uses Shock spells to augment their spellcasting and melee attacks. The three subclasses have very different focuses: Elemental is a blaster, Enhancement is a mobile melee damage dealer/tank in a pinch, and Restoration is a healer/buffer.
In comparison to Paladins, a shaman will find themselves with less AC, HP (except Enh) and nova damage, with more class features able to be used at range, and summonable (and killable) totems rather than always-on Auras.
