New Batman!

Well, after that information I'm not as excited about it as I was. I thought it would be more Batman:TAS. As everyone else has said, Kevin Conroy IS Batman. Mark Hamil IS the Joker. Why are they changing that? The voices have been established and loved for over a decade (and are still continuing in Justice League!). I won't say it will suck or anything, but it just got dropped off my list of things to watch for.

Well, I picked up the issue of Toyfare that touches on this new series, & got to see pics of the Batmobile, as well as this series version of the Joker...

(My apologies for what I'm about to say):

WTF are they thinking with the Joker?!?!?!? I understand they're trying to modernize the franchise a bit, but c'mon? I'm afraid trhis Joker's going to be more of a goofy, annoying, vicious punk than the whimisical psychopath he's protrayed as in B:tAS, Justice League, & other stuff from the Dini line.

Spoiler:
The Joker looks like a goth street punk--more like a member of the Jokerz from Batman Beyond rather than THE Joker. Sorta of like if Rob Zombie shaved his beard, kept the dreadlocks, & went for a mix between the Joker & one of his demented clown drawings.

I'm curious, and also somewhat concerned, to see how other classic Bat-villains will manifest in this series--if the Joker's any indication, I'm not sure that I'll like the look of them; esp. such big-name sinsiter baddies like Ra's al-Ghul.

I'm holding off judging series until I see it. That being said I do realize how people feel. I enjoyed the old series as well. But times change. Some of us probably said the same when it came to who will fill in for Superman after Reeves went down. But times moves along and we'll just have to hope for the best.

Doesn't Dean Cain count? If you're saying, "no one has played Superman on the big screen after Reeves"....then yes, you're right.

As far as the new Batman show is concerned, I was a bit put off myself at what I was seeing. But then, I was the same way with a lot of other shows and didn't give them a chance. When I went back to watch them later (borrowing a friend's copy or something), I found out that I missed out on a good show. And I missed out all because the media machine that promoted it to the public gave me the wrong impression.

I've come to realize that the marketing divisions are probably the wrong people to give me an impression on what the show will be like. Also, small bits of artwork here and there doesn't say anything either. True, it gives you sense of what the show may look like. So in a way...that's the only thing we can actually criticize at this point. But, as I've experienced over many viewing of animation shows over the years, model sheets and actual finished animation 'feel' different once you see it moving and alive in its artistic setting.

Oh...heh heh heh, I never judge a show by its toyline. Most (but not all)American toy companies always have their heads up their arses when it comes to what needs to be truly done for the fans. IMHO.

*shrug* we'll see how it comes out when it does.

But one things for sure. Or at least for me.....is that I'm ready to see a new Batman. I love the old animated series a bunch...but really, I wouldnt' want to see more of the same. I've seen it for so long already. For me, I'm glad they're trying something new rather than simply making new episodes off the old style.

I'd like to see more Timm stuff; there was still a lot to be done, really. And I was hoping for more Timm-universe movies. I guess there won't be any more after this comes out. Bummer.

Cl,

Don't know about the others, but yeah that was my thinking and I do agree. Timm Batman is good but we do need to move past it. Much like the new TMNT is good, but that doesn't mean the old one wasn't and some times isn't missed.

Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see in Sept.

I've only seen the one pic of Batman and it doesn't look bad. I'm withholding judgement on this until I see more.

As to the revamp, I'm of two minds. First, B:TAS debuted in '92. It doesn't really seem that long since Batman has been on the air pretty much constantly in the years since (the Batman revamps, Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League), but 12 years is a pretty good run. It might be time to go out on a high and give everyone a fresh start.

On the other hand, I wonder if this revamp is due to the alledged rebooting of Batman in the upcoming Batman movie. When B:TAS appeared, the creators had to alter some of their plans to bring the series in line with the films (the redesign of the Penguin is the most obvious example).

Quite frankly, I'm terrified that the new Catwoman is going to end up like the Halle Berry version.
