New book covers @ Amazon

Are there tentacles on the caster's head?

That pit feind's head looks like an astral dreadnaught / old DOOM cacodemon. Not good on a biped.

Maybe the ravenloft cover is a test art. God i hope so.

I was about to buy Complete Arcane but now I think I am going to hold off until I see if Complete Mage covers what is already in Complete Arcane.

It's more of a suppliment to Complete Arcane, especially since there are Warlock invocations (additional ones) than what are presented in Complete Arcane.

Frank,
I don't think that's a test cover since that's been shown on WotC.com site and in the previews for August. But I agree heartily about the suckage of FC II's cover.

What's cool about them, if I may ask? (If "nostalgia factor" is the answer, I totally get it, btw.)
Some of that (though it's not really nostalgia as I'd still like the books with product codes that I like if they were new -- it's incidental that they're not). They make referencing sources easier (and help to distinguish between books with similar or identical names). They're open about books being in a series (the codes were stopped because people tend to be deterred from joining numbered series late in the game, even if the works are independent).

Nope. CM is not in any way a rehash or repeat of CA. They work quite well together, in fact.

Ari, I just noticed Cityscape is the third book you've co-written with CAS (Heroes of Horror and Faiths of Eberron being the other two). That's kind of cool.

And I'm once again in the artistic minority, since I like that pit fiend (it looks different - I appreciate change) and the Ravenloft cover. I'll agree that the Complete Mage mage looks pretty odd, although it's nice to see an albino in a D&D illustration. Just because it's different.

Demiurge out.

Change is antithetical to a book about Baator and the baatezu. ;)
Nonsense! All those power struggles between the Lords of the Nine? The mysterious demotion of the geulgons and the promotion of the cornugons? The shift in roles of the erinyes from seduction to artillery? ;)

Now, if FC 2 can reasonably explain those last two shifts, I will be a happy monster geek.

Demiurge out.

I actually like the cover of Complete Mage, although it looks a bit old-fashioned :). Perhaps, because I had once a neighbor who looked like that, including the rats.

Yeah... mentioning 'Baator' and 'baatezu...' hmm wait, wasn't there a little bit of change regarding these guys back... oh, about an edition ago? Something about names... ;)
