New camera?

My friend is offering to sell me a digital camera, a 'DX7440 Kodak'.

The opening offer is £80 + £20 ($160 + $40) for a battery (I think, this was too long ago for my memory), which I can act on once he's finished his photography course. I was wondering if this was a good deal?

Thanks guys.

p.s. I mean that in a non gender specific way.

When he finishes his class, eh? When will that be? If it is a long time then I would hold off maself. By then the same amount of $ can get a new one, likely with better features....

Their not school classes, its an out of school thing, should be over quite soon actually.

I wa wondering about buying a new one for that cash actually. I might check out ebay as a price comparison for 4X optical zoom and 4 mega pixels. (Probably should have mentioned that!)

Another question is: what will you use it for?

"Ta have!" as Bugs would say? For more involved, specialized work? Just daily stuff? For a class yourself?

I've started taking photos of stuff, its purely hobby right now, but I might start selling the odd print on deviant art if I can get good quality photos.

The prices online range from about £30 to £160... But most new ones of the same quality are more expensive than the one I'm being offered.

Hmm ... sounds not so bad then. :)

I wish the camera buffs would pop in and speak up, though. :uhoh:

The nice thing about brand new cameras is the option to purchase longer warranties ... that is the main reason I brought it up. I always like to get electronics covered with as much warranty as possible. But if you are fine with it, then ... why not?

Another thought: have you looked up user reviews of the creature online?

I have, the word glowing was involved. Although that was just one review it sounded good enough for me, and for what I want to do. Who are the Cam Buffs?

Well .. sounds good to me then. You might try asking the same question over in the computer forum, btw, or ask a mod to shuffle this thread over there. Maybe more of that ilk could give you more helpful feedback than mine. :heh:
