DM Beadle
I recently purchased Into the Boarderlands, the rewrite of B1 and B2 to use at the beginning of my next campaign to start this summer (we are currently playing Tomb of Annihilation). I plan to run them to 3rd or 4th level then transition to the recent Kickstarter I backed (praying it arrives in time) Rise of the Drow. I know that Rise has come out previously for Pathfinder as a set of books, but I have no exposure to it other than some positive online reviews. I thought I might toss up this combo idea onto En World just to see if anyone had any comments or ideas that I might find useful for the game.
I do extensive prep work for each of my games, using Obsidian Portal to post background, important NPC characters, and other game info for the campaigns I run. So for B2 I will be creating personality profiles, names, and such for the NPC's that I know will feature in the new game. I will also be posting a map of the keep itself so that the players can be familiar with the fortress layout before they play. I'm using the 3e Wilderlands campaign setting, but changing the scale of the map by x25 (each hex in the game is 25 miles instead of 1) so that things are much more remote from each other. I plan to place the keep on the edge of the Overlord's empire, and the military unit attached to the keep will be from that nation, and being so far from the central government the Castellan of the Keep really will be the defacto independent law of the land. I also plan to place a small agricultural town nearby which supports the keep, as it doesn't make sense to have just a keep with such a large military unit attached to it without a supporting town.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the game I'm open to anything. Particularly if you are familiar with Drow campaign and can offer ideas on how I can incorporate elements of that adventure into the setting early on to make the segue seem more natural. Thanks!
