New CB Power Card Pics!

Given that CB makes mistakes on practically any character using anything but the most standard options I am quite happy to have the math on the power card so I can tell if it needs to be fixed by hand.

Overall these seem to be a somewhat improved power card design. The text will be small, but then again you really don't have to read it all the time. Once you know what your power does it is just a handy reference. The old CB power cards unfortunately didn't really give you enough info and sometimes even gave you BAD info or at least were misleading.

Now, I would love it if the character sheet would print the actual full text of feats. What the existing CB prints on the sheet for those is generally worthless.

G
Cards seem a little on in the maths department.

YChaos Bolt says it Cha vs Will and that the Damage is 1d10+ Cha modifier.

The Cha modifier is listed as +4, the attack line at the top says

Staff Implement +4 vs., 1d10+6 damage

So it doesn't tell you what the attack is against and has added +2 from somewhere to the damage total.

Then Enscorcelled Blade doesn't even seem to have a calculated attack line at the top at all. So seems to lack a bit of functionality.

Whirlwind at least tells you what you are attacking but still has the +2 damage from some unknown location (I guess a feat perhaps?).

Trevor indicated he did them really quick. The character doesn't have everything equipped right so the math doesn't work right.

I like the look of the new cards. That said, they still haven't fixed the most annoying bug (for me) in the Character Builder - incorrect damage off secondary attacks. Take Chaos Bolt for instance. It says "secondary damage: 1d6". That should be 1d6 + <static mods>. Why don't they add that in and print it out?

I find it useful to have the text of the power card spell that stuff out. That way you can see where the numbers come from.

You can doublecheck your math when it's not the middle of combat, in the CB. I'm arguing for two formats for the character sheet: a thorough one with all the math to doublecheck stuff, and a simple one woth all the math done for you that you can consult as quickly as possible. Power cards clealry belong to the simple, in-combat sheet, so you shouldn't have to plug variables into equations to read a power.

Yeah, I'd like even more trimmed down power cards. I print everything combat-related on one sheet - feats, powers, defenses, etc. - which works so far even in paragon tier.

There's a lot more that can be scrapped: first of all, symbols rather than words where possible (e.g. damage types and/or keywords such as ranged/melee/area/close), Removal of pointless header (e.g. Attack/Hit, Encounter/At-will/Daily), Removal or inlining of optional features (e.g. "Wild Magic"), removal of modifiers where known (e.g. Charisma modifier can be replaced by +4). If you're printing on a page rather than a card, you can even remove the action type and just group by action type instead.

Kindof like this (where things in curly braces should be symbols)
Chaos Bolt - {Standard Action}
{Ranged} 10, one creature
+6 vs. Will: 1d10+8 {psychic}
If you rolled an even number for the attack, make a secondary attack:
{Ranged}, one creature within 5 squares of the target last hit by this power
+6 vs. Will: 1d6+4 {psychic} and if you rolled an even number for the secondary attack roll, repeat the secondary attack. You can attack a creature only once with a single use of this power.
----
Sorcerer 1 - Arcane, Implement, Psychic

i.e. don't bother repeating useless lines like Primary Attack:, and use symbols for common things; and if you need uninteresting filler for corner cases (e.g., keywords/level/class) put those at the bottom.

I wonder why Chaos Bolt has the Target listed within the main part of the card, but Ensorcelled Bolt and Whirlwind have the Target listed at the top? Doesn't seem very uniform to me.

I think it's because Chaos Bolt has a secondary target; the others don't.

I think having an option for generic/specific (or non-combat/combat if you will) cards is actually a really great idea. I don't know how much trouble it would be to code (probably a lot) but it is still cool.

Well- they've indicated they plan to add more and more character sheets as ime goes by... I wonder if power cards will also be something added? (Seems logical...)
