Let's Clarify things, see if we can't bring this back to something more Concrete. ..
Thanks for formatting the issues this way :) it does make it easier to respond to issues. I think I got all of these in my previous post to Cystuni.

After that there was some comment about how small the area to chat is. Though I may needs some clarification on what in particular is small I can reiterate -- you can flot the screen to a re-sizeable screen.

If you right click in the "main" chat scolling area, you can choose increase or decrease font.

If it is the buttons are agreed to be too tiny by all, they are able to be rebuilt bigger, however that would take time as re-skinning is not slam dunk easy.

In any event, I'd also like to see the following in the new system.
- Descriptions - This is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing, I think
- /think command might be nice
- bold, underline, and italics?

I agree the description issue is the most important issue. See my earlier post on this.

The /THINK command . . . i have some ideas on how this might be achieved, but I am going to need to talk it over with a web dev here before I can speak intelligently about it.

I have doubts that the formatting of text can be achieved, but I will add it to my list.

And on an odd note, is there any way that we can have unrecognized characters in boards SNs (ie, spaces) replaced by an underscore (_) or something when folks try to log into chat? (yes, my very rudimentary knowledge of coding is showing here) Or just eliminate the space on logon to chat, as if it's not even there?

That one has been troubling me too. I can and will volunteer to manually remove the space or replace it with an underline in anyones exisiting board name. Drop me a line at boards@wizards.com with the request.

I also tried the new chat out, but I didn't find it as disgustingly horrible as so many here seem to have. Does it need work? Yes, but as Mel said the Open House was just to give us a taste of what's to come and so she could -see- what needed to be worked on. That said, here's my list of Pros and Cons, and on a side note I would encourage others to try and do the same. List the Pros and Cons, see what good you -can- find in it. Mel and the WizOs are, I'm sure, trying their hardest to make this work for us instead of just saying "This is the new chat, deal with it". The least we can do is work with them to make this work instead of just saying how totally and utterly horrible it is, don't you think?

*NOTE* Most of my comments apply to the iChat browser interface. Yes I know Cheetahchat is out there, and yes it is better in some ways, but for this post lets imagine a user that doesn't know what cheetahchat is and/or doesn't have it/can't use it and thus is stuck with one of the browser interfaces.

Pros
1. Can login from Mozilla Firefox. I despise IE and its security problems and have continuously had issues with it. It got to the point to where the only thing I actually used it for was iChat, and even then I'd just as well use Cheetah instead. I was SO happy when I could login from Firefox because, IMO, it's so much safer than IE.
2. Chat Tabs. Possibly one of -the- most useful features on Chatspace, I can finally be in multiple rooms without having to have two different chat screens open! And even better, are the following:
2a. Rooms Tab. No longer to I have to bother with the /roomlist command that scrolls my screen if I want to know how many people in what room. Instead I just click a tab and viola! There's the whole list of rooms and how many are online in each.
2b. P2P Chat. When using the browser interface for iChat, at best you would have a little floating box to type your PMs in. At worst you were constantly typing the /tell username command over and over. Either could be a pain in the arse, and if you had multiple PMs going, God help you. With Chatspace, if I want to have a lengthy PM chat with someone, I just open a PM room, and best of all it's not difficult in the slightest to keep up with the regular room I'm in because of:
2c. Tab Highlights. What I mean by this is that let's say I'm in the CRT which is active and I'm also in a P2P chat with my best friend Bhryn (had to use ya ;)). Well if I'm watching the CRT and waiting for Bhryn to reply, all I have to do is glance at the tabs. Whenever there's a new reply in one room, the name on the tab turns bold and red (i.e. instead of P2P - Bhryn_Astairre it would look like P2P - Bhryn_Astairre when she's sent me a new reply) and so I know then to check that room and see what's going on :) The beauty of it is it works for all the rooms you're active in so long as it's not the tab you currently have pulled up. Very very handy!
3. New bot and menus! Which was SO long overdue, and might I add I love the description and the fact that it gives a price now. Plus Warden and Valkyrie (who's apparently the new clearing bot) can both sell you items! Definitely a plus! Although I do wonder, can warden still roll dice?
4. Chat and Boards together. Finally I don't have to register a different name for the boards than on the chat! (Well, at least unless I like my space for boards posting, which I do, but meh :P) I can have one name for each character that works for boards and chat and if I want to use either it's all under that one name. Nifty!
5. Gah, there is a fifth...I just had it...oh bah, I'll edit it in later or something

Ok, so now we move onto:

Cons
1. Descriptions, Descriptions, Descriptions! I know, you said you're working on it, Mel, but still...it's a big con and I gotta put in my voice with the crowd here. Descriptions are a staple of ISRP, and though the idea of a boards thread for character descriptions and art is a good idea in theory, when it comes down to practicality having to open another window to look at descriptions can either be really good (You don't have to try and read it while the screen is scrolling) or really bad (old/unstable operating system/computer + multiple windows open = crash :nonono: ), and more often its really bad. So please definitely keep looking into this for us! We ISRPers neeeeed our descripts!
2. User Options, or whatever the first button is called. I'm also getting the "white-out" blocks. Can't really tell what I'm doing in there, which sucks. Can we fix that?
3. Multiple Screen Names. Yeah, it is going to be a pain to re-create all my screen names for the boards. :bored: (This is what I get for having over 50 or so characters :twitch: ). On the bright side, at least I can get them all under one e-mail now?
4. Actions. I am glad we still have actions, but is there any way to remove that annoying ! thingy in from of them? Eh, it kinda looks like this:
icon4.gif
but it's a red triangle with a white ! I believe. Dunno if it bugs anyone else, but it's pretty damn annoying to me.

There are probably more Pros and Cons that my addled brain has forgotten in the course of typing this, but those are the main ones. I would like to add that I haven't had nearly the amount of trouble as it seems some of you have with getting Chatspace to load. It loads in less than a minute for me :thinks: go figure!

I would also like to make a suggestion. Could we please keep iChat as long as feasibly possible? At least for ISRP if not for Live! and whatnot.

Anyways, that's basically it for me for now, just want to say this:

Thank you Mel for taking to the time to listen to our concerns and try to fix our issues. That, if nothing else, gives me enough faith in Wizards to keep coming no matter what. Hats off to you! :tiphat:

it's not the seperate screen I want. it's the room list in another frame. just a bit easier, I don't have to take my attention away from the people I'm talking to in a busy room to find a quieter one.

Ah, I see. There is a function you can do called "tear off" to any tabbed window. Drag it to another area of your screen and you should be able to still see it. This works with p2p and buddy list as well. This is described in the downloadable user guide on the new chat log in page.

Well, when I first logged in, I hated it.
Though I took a moment to look about and it doesn't really seem that bad, aside from having a tiny, tiny interface that should either be made bigger or change depending on the user's resolution.

I posted on this earlier, please clairify if I did not address the issue you were thinking of there.

Aside from that, however, it runs fine on my machine and seems alright. Though being able to be in two rooms at once makes me go a little "???" at times.

If everyone hates the idea of being able to go into more than one room on ISRP area, I can restrict that setting to only allow being in one chat room at a time. This would be an easy change.

everyone knows the exits in ICHAT I never have to look for what room I'm going into, I just go as I;'m sure most of us do. quiz us, we know every exit from which room

I very much want to be able to sucesfully introduce chat to new users who do not know the exits at all.

Uhm...this is scary?! I think most of the probs have been stated previously. But *eeps*. Ahh well, we'll all either learn to deal with it, or not. Can we get the help link in the chat window somehow? There may be some people it might help...*tentatively puts up hand*

We can certainly have another open house. And of course WizOs are going to be expected to show folks around the interface at the point of switch. Of course it sounds like the ISRP WizOs are going to have a lot of free time. You are also welcome to ask here or by email.

...No wonder you hardly talk to me, Draggy, my ISRP name is Bhryn_Astairre_

*wry smile*

But because of the spaces, I've had to register Bhryn (with and without Astairre) at least four times on the boards to ensure no one bloody steals my name!

Rawr.

Technicalities, technicalities. I was just making an example, silly celestial! :P
