Here is a class I have had in my game since 3.5 , updated to 5th ed.
Powerful in subtle ways but really works well in a group and in civilized areas.

I wouldn't expect it would be all that useful in combat, but it would be nice if they got something. Also, it should have subclass choices like any other class. How about a beastmaster-like subclass that has a bodyguard taken from the NPC statblocks in the DM Basic doc? They'd outfit their bodyguard and direct them in combat; occasionally helping out themselves when needed.

The other subclass would be more independent and would instead use their silver tongue to distract or confuse their enemies at will.

I'd also like to see a full 20 level progression. A master merchant should be able to sell underwear to Bahamut and toothpicks to Cthulhu.

I forgot about the sub classes. They are great ideas. Ill start working on it
