Hey everyone, I am one of the owners / creators of Tact-Tiles. I appreciate the feedback we are receiving from this thread, so I would like to address a couple of your comments. First of all, the double-sided map (squares on one side, hexes on the other) was one of the first considerations we had when designing the product. After producing the prototypes and visiting with our plastic vendor we realized that this option was not feasible. The injection molding process leaves one smooth side (the side we coat and print), and one rough side (which has dimples and divets from the injection process). So it only stands to reason that customers would not be happy with the "rough" side while gaming.
As far as the pricing issue, if you think about it, this product is priced only a little higher than the wet erase mats. But it is a quality item. These will last longer (possibly a lifetime), they are sturdier, and much more flexible than wet erase mats. Also, think about this; I payed 30 bucks the other day for a new D&D book. It is a non-core rule book which means it will maybe get used maybe a few times. But, the Tact-Tiles are a product that will be an integral part of EVERY game and only cost 10 to 20 dollars more than a new d20 manual. We could bring down the price about 5 dollars by doing the work overseas, but we would lose our quality control, and, we just feel better about keeping the work in the good old USA.
There is no perfect solution to the table-top miniature map dilemma, but we feel our product is the best solution available at this time.
Not only that, they are 100% guaranteed. If you are not satisfied, you get your money back. We have talked to many customers who purchased our products from our test market stores, and all of them have been completely happy with the product. We honestly feel you will be too.
