New D&D Figs: 45-60mm!!

I expect they will be slightly taller than the reaper figs, but mount your Reaper figs on the 1"x1" pastic bases and it will add a bit of height.

These figures would have to have a fantastic paint job and be extremely cheap for me to even consider buying a random assortment. I am only interested in spending money on what I want, when I want it.

On the other hand, having a good mass combat system using miniatures would be nice. In the past, I have had scenarios that have gone out of control and ended up with army versus army, PC's in the middle!

I do plan on giving them a try. I love to paint, but would rather paint specifically chosen figs rather than ones needed for a certain encounter or adventure. I have a good feeling about these, after all WoTC most likely did not go into another figure venture light heartedly and for the most part they have done a pretty darn good job!

Many interesting comments from people speculating on what 45-60mm sizes would mean... but that size indication in the on-line report is a typo.

Thanks Rob - that certainly is a huge relief to me. 54mms and the like just do not fit very well in my buildings and dungeons.

Re: You may check out the actual size of 45-60mm

It sounds like some people out here don't know how big an actual 45-60mm scale figure stands...you might check out the size (or look) of the GW Inquistor miniatures...they are from a 54mm scale game and they stand between 4-5 inches tall.
54 mm is just over two inches.
Aren't most DnD fantasy minis (from WotC or Reaper) about 2.5 inches at most?
Fantasy wargaming miniatures used to be 25 mm, or one inch. They're now 28 mm to 30 mm tall, a bit over one inch.

THANK - YOU - ROB!

That's a huge relief.

I definitely want to see these things when the game is released, because mage knight-priced fantasy figures are something i've wanted for a while now.

The pricing is pretty interesting.

I play Mage Knight from time to time - I'm going through a MK Dungeons phase at the moment - and I love how affordable it is, and not having to paint the figures. :)

Compare:

MK Starter: 10 figures, $17.95 ($1.80 per figure)
MK Booster: 5 figures, $6.95 ($1.40 per figure)

D&D Miniature Starter: 16 figures, $19.95 ($1.25 per figure)
D&D Miniature Booster: 8 figures, $9.95 ($1.25 per figure)

Can somone give me an indication of how much metal figures cost in the US?

Cheers!

[Anyhow, I have no intention of buying randomly packaged figs anyway. If I need 6 bugbears for my game this weekend, I'm not buying 10 boosters in the hope that I get enough.

Cheers [/B]

Exactly..I've been "Anti-Miniatures" for..well my whole gaming life, as I just don't have the time , and patience for them..money, I have but would rather spend it on other gaming stuff.

With 3E's release though, I've found it difficult to run the game without miniatures (though I have done OK, so far, though I'm very fast and loose with the rules).

I was actually kinda looking forward to some prepainted plastic minis (cheaper, less hassle, and work) to try, but now it seems like it's some kind of CCG where I don't know if I'll get what I need/want when I buy a pack...absolutely friggin ridiculous..

That's fine for the people who are into that collectable stuff..but for the "average" DM who needs an X mini, this just...well..sucks.

And how will this affect all the 1" battlemaps out there?(if at all..I don't know..never used minis) EDIT: Saw Rob's reply...nevermind
