First Post
Well mid and late this year we are going to see new hardcover printings of Stephen King's exisiting Dark Tower novels including a re written Gunslinger, and then the first of the last 3 volumes of the series.
I'm quite exicted...I was terrified he wouldnt live to finish them
Are any of you guys DT fans? Exicted to see the new books at last? Thoughts on the story and what may happen?

It's been announced? Finally!

I'm not a big King fan, but the Dark Tower series is excellent. I don't dare to even try and predict them, but I shall await them with great interest!

I believe the hardcovers including the re written gunslinger are coming in the summer some time...july or august if I remember...and Wolves of the Calla, the next one, is slated for November.
See the thing is tho half the fun of reading all his other stuff is looking for the DT connections. Everything he;s written is actualy part of the Dark Tower.
My information comes from this site

As long as they don't change that first sentance in the Gunslinger, I'll probably forgive them for rewriting it. That first sentance is what got me sucked into that series in the first place!

As for a new book coming out finally, yippidy-do-da. :(

I'm sorry, but I tend to agree with the poster above that he may not live long enough to finish this series. After reading the first three books over a period of about ten years, I made a promise to myself that I would only go back and read the rest when/if the series is completed. For that reason, I have yet to read book number 4 and will probably not pick up this new one yet either.

It is a great series though. Just that waiting 5 years between books is a bit too long for me.

According to everything I have heard the last 3 books are written. they just arent all getting released at once. Both of the last 2 may be coming out in '04 I dont remember for sure.
But we no longer need worry about him dying on us...all the stuff that matters is finished.
:Edit: For the record I said I WAS afraid he'd die before it was finished...thats why I was relieved when I found out they are all actualy finished.

I hadn't heard that there was going to be a rewrite of The Gunslinger. Any word on what will be different?

From Stephen King:

"Here's the scoop on the new material I've added to The Gunslinger. The idea was to bring The Gunslinger in line with the material in the new books as well as the material in the first four. The other thing I wanted to do was to rewrite to some degree for language because I always felt it had a different feel than the other books because I was so young when I wrote it. The material is about an additional 10% (about 35 manuscript pages) with changes on almost every page."

I've read the first three and listened to the 4th one on audio tape. If you get a chance hear the audio tape version, Frank Muller (I think that is the narrator's name) is great.
