jdavis - I want to see TTPC. I mean, what could be cooler than watching Washington, Lincoln, and TR kickin' bad-guy butt on a weekly basis?

Buchanan can sit on the sidelines and fret over not being able to do anything to help. Hoover can be the engineering guy that designs their cool stuff. And Clinton can run the nightclub they use as their secret base. They always thwart the plans of BGAAaAP (Bad Guys Against America and Apple Pie), headed by Khruchev and George IV, whose forces consist of Redcoats, Vietcong, and Barbary Pirates. And who is their secret master? Some dude from the 27th century who we see in blurry pictures. It'll be a hit!!!

I'd like to see Stargate:Atlantis, so long as it doesn't inherit the lethargy suffered by it's parent series. Take "The Abyss" and combine it with "SeaQuest DSV", then mix in a little H.P. Lovecraft and the Discovery Channel. The presence of orichalcum, merfolk, and a touch of weird new age/crystal/unknown energies are givens. To that add a touch of Poe's "City In the Sea" and the movie it inspired; "War-Gods of the Deep". A good deal of the show should be filmed underwater or in natural caverns.

Other than that, "The evil One", "Total Eclipse" and "Brother Voodoo" (as Henry said, only so long as its based on the old Marvel comic series) might be promising.

Still, they ain't no Farscape.

Henry - You took the words right out of my mouth. I guess that the "lesson" they've learned from the success of the Lord of the Rings movies is that quantity is better than quality. Typical Hollywood, turning stuff on its ear.
Sorry, I thought they learned that from watching Attack of the Clones. A lot more quantity than quality in that and the previous SW prequel film. :p

Sorry, I can't ignore the LOTR jibe when I love both films.

But I do agree, even though I have no cable, that the SCI-FI "suits" are "lost in the wood."

I mean, come on! Who wants to see dead lawyers doing good for a change?

Oh, you misunderstand. I adore the LotR films. I was trying to say that Hollywood suits see the example of great art, and either ignore it or miscontrue it, intentionally (dumbing down for the audience) or unintentionally (simply having a lack of imagination).

As for AotC, I'll leave that alone, other than to say I recently watched it for the first time, and though I was glad to rent it, I am also glad I hadn't paid full price to see it in the theatre.

However, it seems that the folks at the "skiffy" channel won't even be able to hit the level of the new Star Wars movies in terms of imagination, and due to economic realities, perhaps not even on a visual level.

Yeah I was totally hoping this was a joke of some sort. But they just posted their Game Show and reality show ideas on the Second... so I have a feeling this isn't a bad joke of some sort. I have a feeling this is very very scary reality.

Here is what happened from what I have gathered (mostly from an Interview with Rockine O'Bannon in some Sci-Fi Magizine (Sorry work at a book store, we carry a load of them, they all blend). Basically a new management crew took over Sci Fi channel, and they looked at Farscape and said "We could produce 3 or 4 shows for what this one costs, and it is more expensive and gets less raitings than Stargate SG-1." From what I have heard, the president of Sci Fi Channel programing, Bonnie Hammer, had an interview in Time I believe (If anybody knows the magizine, the issue number, or a link to the text be sure to post it). Where from what I have heard, never read it mind you, she said something to the effect of "We want to broaden Sci Fi Channels popularity, bring more women into the channel, and bring more humor into it. We don't want to be the channel just for geeks anymore." Which got the Women who watch Farscape really mad, cuz like half of Farscapes audience is women 18-49... which started off the "Women in Support of Farscape" campaign where they sent bras into the channel... but that's not important right now. In any event this fits that idea. These show ideas look a lot like people who are NOT fans of Sci Fi, taking concepts and ideas from shows that work and putting a Hollywood Sci Fi twist to them, and it shows. Cuz not only are the ideas not Sci Fi (cuz they obviously are not fans and don't know what Sci Fi is) the ideas are very tired and old.

Dead Lawyers is like, all the "popular laywer shows" you know Law & Order, the Practice, with a Sci Fi twist (even though it's a Supernatural twist, but that's not important right now).

The Divide is like... well i don't know what it's like. Maybe like Magnum PI with a Sci Fi twist (even though it's a supernatural twist, but those new not-Sci Fi fans can't tell the difference). I don't know about you, but this really sounds like a coked up yes man to me. "Okay there is this guy, he is a radio psychic, but he is phoney yeah. BUt it turns out he isn't phoney and for some reason he didn't know he wasn't phony his whole life, and his dead sister... his dead TWIN sister comes back to the dead. And they SOLVE CRIME. It's like the Sixth Sense meets Starsky and Hutch!" Oh my god, please may god strike me blind before I accendentally watch this show... well I don't want to be blind. My god give me a fast thumb so I can skip by this one.

Legion. Okay sell your soul, and Satan give you the power to throw a monkey wrench in his evil schemes on earth... okay. Sounds like a James Bond villian to me "Yes I will give you a great power for your soul that could really screw me, why I don't know. But I will now simply leave you alone to screw with me... and assume you wont... now start the unnessicarrly slow dipping machine." MY GOD. Why would the master of evil give somebody the power to destroy him... geez! It's like the dumb Psycholus or whatever on Battlefield Earth. Make a human smart enough to defeat them, dumb dumb dumb.

Stargate Atlantis. that one was easy. Stargate SG-1 is the most watched show, so spin it off and now you have TWO shows that people will watch. How much you wanna bet that since Daniel is coming back next season, they move Jonas Quinn over to Atlantis to be the crossover character. BTW this is why I think the story is true. cuz the season finalle of Stargate really sets up this idea. They find a tablet that has the location of a lost Ancients city, why woudln't it be Atlantis.

Painkiller Jane. Same thing just give Alias a Sci Fi twist. I'm actually proud of this show, it is the ONLY original one with remotely a Science Fiction twist.

The Evil One. I don't know about you, but how long can a show where the bad guy is the main character (and thus possibly somebody you may not want to root for) can last. If he is kewl that maybe one thing... but Anti-hero shows are kinda hard to do. But if they do it right, it could be really really fun, and if not it is gonna be so beyond horrible.

Total Eclipse. It's easy to see how this one got going. "Lets make Harry Potter for adults." You know, it's basically Hogwarts, but it's a more edgy. I'm sorry this one sounds really stupid too. It's an okay concept, but I can just tell it's gonna try to be funny, and it's not... it's gonna be stupid.

Suture Girl. Hanging out with Gypsy's, and saving the world. I'm sorry I don't know how you can make a show outta this, and how a Frankenstien girl can be attractive. I mean Dax on DS9 was one thing... she just had spots. And Chiana is another, she is just gray... not too bad. But a lady was all stiched together... that just sounds... unsanitary.

The mini series suck... especially "The Thing." My god the Original was done well, and John Carpenter's Remake was made correctly the first time. Why does there need to be ANOTHER remake. I dunno, why Remake movies that were done well the first time. It's like updating... Raiders of the Lost Ark and setting it now, with Saddam after the Ark or something. I'm sorry, movies that were done correctly the first time, no matter how long ago with how cheesy the FX, I don't think need to be redone. Like "Forbidden Planet" or "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Those movies still hold up despite their cheesyness cuz they were done well. "The Thing" is the same waya.

Mad Mad House, is just "Big Brother" with freaky people. Another reality show... but this one has a Sci Fi twist... yeah.

All I can think of is this... THESE shows are what they Canceled Farscape for. I have been watching "Tremors; the Series" and I noticed how crappy the look of the show was. I swear to god they only have like 3 sets, and they are very cheesy Cable sets. And that "mine" in the Second episode, was so obviously a set it wasn't funny. Farscape had the look of a very professional, "Big Network" show, and they canceled it to make 3 or 4 shows that don't even look half as good. I think Sci Fi new brass is going for Quantity over Quality... and it shows. Oh well Bonnie doesn't want "geeks," and it shows. But I think the more "mainstream" audience she is looking for isn't going to want to watch this crap. So I love the Sci Fi channel, but if this is the direction they are going in, I'm going to be very sorry to see the channel die. But I still have my South Park and reruns of Futurama so all is not lost I guess.

They've already done Legion before, though! Anyone remember that show about the cop who killed the man who raped his wife, got sent to hell, but was brought back to Earth to kill something like 50 people who had escaped from Hell? He had to shoot their eyes to kill them...

Brimestone? Used to be on Fox. The Devil was played by the same actor who plays Lionel Luthor on Smallville, right?
