New Developments at the SciFi Channel

ACK -- no Witchblade

I was hoping that the Sci Fi channel would pick up Witchblade, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

right...John Glover was great as the Devil & he's even more sinister as Lionel Luthor.
Agreed. I only saw a few eps of that show but when I first saw him on Smallville I knew he was perfect for Lex's dad.

jdavis - I want to see TTPC. I mean, what could be cooler than watching Washington, Lincoln, and TR kickin' bad-guy butt on a weekly basis?

Buchanan can sit on the sidelines and fret over not being able to do anything to help. Hoover can be the engineering guy that designs their cool stuff. And Clinton can run the nightclub they use as their secret base. They always thwart the plans of BGAAaAP (Bad Guys Against America and Apple Pie), headed by Khruchev and George IV, whose forces consist of Redcoats, Vietcong, and Barbary Pirates. And who is their secret master? Some dude from the 27th century who we see in blurry pictures. It'll be a hit!!!

It's a good a idea as any on the list, of course we better not let them see my goofy shows they might steal my ideas.

My question is how would you broaden the appeal of a network with such a narrow defined target audience and still keep it the same channel, they might as well get rid of the name Sci Fi as it is rapidly turning into just another crappy cable outlet, call it USA 2 the channel for those people who can't get enough of USA networks programming. The narrow target audience is what made the channel different, without that it can't compete, heck it sucks more and more every day, why do I want another TNN or TNT or USA or any of the other general cable outlets out there.

I'm planning on giving every one of these shows a chance. In fact. I'm looking forward to several. I too wish they would bring back some other shows they cancelled, like Good v. Evil, Space: Above & Beyond, and The Chronicle. But I am not bitter over their loss...stuff happens. But Sci-Fi has been giving me a lot of stuff I like lately. Children of Dune was great, in my opinion, and Stargate is one of my favorite shows.

I like Farscape, but I am not a huge fan, and it felt foreign to me in later seasons. I know that will be sacraligious to many in this thread, but it's the truth for me. If they can cancel it and get two shows I will watch as often as Farscape, and one crappy one, that's a huge bonus in my book. Huge. And I suspect, after they flesh out the good from the bad over several episodes, that's what will happen.

Well mention of a miniseries/TV movie of the Earthsea Cycle interests me a great deal. I would love to see that if they do it right.

Oh, you misunderstand. I adore the LotR films. I was trying to say that Hollywood suits see the example of great art, and either ignore it or miscontrue it, intentionally (dumbing down for the audience) or unintentionally (simply having a lack of imagination).
"Hollywood suits"? I thought that Peter Jackson (a Kiwi) oversees the entire post-production process. After all, it's his baby.

I really liked Good v. Evil and I will agree with you on the mini series but very few of the listed tv shows appeal to me. As far as Farscape goes I liked the last seasom much more than the one before it and was really getting back into it there at the end, I understand cancelling it but I just don't like the way they went about it. Sci Fi has always been sort of hit or miss in it's programming but I'm just not a fan of the new emphasis away from Science Fiction and the list of new shows was pretty crappy, a couple might be ok but none reached out and grabbed me. If they can make ten crappy shows for the price of one Farscape then they are still crappy shows. I'll continue to give them the benifit of the doubt, although my gut feeling on Tremors the series turned out to be correct, and I will keep high hopes for the BattleStar Galactica mini series but other than that I don't see me watching all that much.

Oh on a side note after the last Stargate SG1 go around I decided to give it another shot, I don't watch it regularly but I have seen some decent episodes. I don't know about the spin off though sounds a little bit odd to me.

Though someone already mentioned it, let me get this straight:

Dead Lawyers -- Dead guys and girls

The Divide -- Dead guy

Legion -- Devil/Demons

Stargate: Atlantis -- Sci-Fi

Painkiller Jane -- SciFi/Comics

Clive Barker's The Evil One -- Devil/Demons

Suture Girl -- Dead girl

So... 3 dead guys/girls shows, 2 devil/demons shows, and 2 actual sci-fi shows. Very disappointing.

Well, go look in your local B Dalton's, Waldenbooks, or any other chain bookstore, or probably even your local library. Look at the "sci-fi" section. You'll see both sci-fi and fantasy there. That's how the mass market defines things.
