Y'know, I used to think that the online Dragon would be nice because I wouldn't have to wait two or three months to get my fix.

Now I see that all the armchair grammar Nazi's are going to have a field day with this. How come none of you guys jumped all over Paizo?
Did Pazio post their articles online? This is the magic of being able to cut-n-paste offending statements.

pukunui—I think they did. The change is subtle but less painful, I think.
So they did:

"Within the shadar-kai culture, a sometimes-cruel meritocracy, contests of wit, skill, and combat prowess abound."

That's much better. Still not perfect (I would've separated the meritocracy bit with m-dashes, like this: "... culture--a sometimes-cruel meritocracy--contests ...") but good enough.

Hmm...a choice between compound names like Gloomdeep and words like Ixitxachitl

I say BRING ON THE COMPOUND NAMES!!!!

(To this day, I still can't even pronounce the bloody creature's name)

Hey, Ixitxachitl is a real name. It happens to be Aztec, but never mind that.

Now Menzoberranzan, that's a silly name.

When I was like 6, I got the game "Menzoberranzan" and I thought it was some Vasque city.

I have always liked the "Shadowkiller", "Shadowlurker", kind of names (ok, not those two). It's nice that you can form such words in English and they sound and look quite nice. The same kind of name is impossible to form in Spanish, keeping the nice sound it has.
