New Epic Magic Item - Tiger Amulet

First Post
Now that the ELH is out, I'll finally post some of my epic magic items. I've taken out the prices because I'm mostly interested in what you guys think about the items themselves. Also, I haven't finished pricing them according to the new rules yet. Let me know what you think.

EDIT: I should also mention that I haven't finished with the spell prereq's, nor have I added the new epic item creation feats. I always do those last.

Tiger Amulet: This beautifully designed amulet features a nearly priceless cat’s eye gemstone surrounded by dozens of small emerald fragments. When placed around the neck, the amulet gently adheres itself to the wearer's skin upon their chest. The simple gold chain then vanishes, leaving the amulet held in place, seemingly by nothing. Speaking the appropriate command word, also as a standard action, will release the amulet from the chest of the wearer. The amulet bestows damage reduction 10/-- upon the wearer while worn.

Activated as a standard action, the amulet proves to be far more valuable. First, the amulet grants a +12 enhancement bonus to Strength, a +4 enhancement bonus to Dexterity, and a +6 enhancement bonus to Constitution.

The wearer then undergoes physical changes. Long fangs grow in their mouth and large claws extend from their fingers, granting the wearer natural attacks with both claws and a single bite. You attack with your claws at your full base attack bonus and your bite at only 2 from your full attack bonus (as if you had the Multiattack feat). Your claws deal 1d8 points of damage each (1d6 if you are Small), and your bite deals 2d6 (2d4 if you are Small).

You also gain the benefits of the Blind-Fight and Power Attack feats as well, and a +15 natural armor bonus. All of the above effects last until the amulet is deactivated as a standard action. The tiger amulet does not take up a worn item slot.

Caster Level: 20th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, bite of the weretiger, stoneskin; Market Price: In Progress gp.

+12 Str??? Holy phuque!

Shouldn't the caster level be at least 21st if it's an Epic item...?

Also, I think this should really be in House Rules.

:D Yeah, that bonus alone is roughly 1,440,000gp.

I haven't adjusted the prereqs yet. It's always the last thing I do.

Normally, I would agree, but these were built by the rules. But if they need to be moved, that's cool.

What's the duration of the transformation? You shoul;d note that each claw gets the full str bonus to damage, but the bite only gets half. Why doesn't the amulet take up the amulet slot on the person? I've not problem with that ability, I just think you might want to explain it in the description.

Overall, this item is very good and more interesting then most of the items presented in ELH.

I know very little about the ELH, but it was my impression that the x10 multiplier for bonuses over the norm was only for items that do just like the non-epic ones only with higher values. What I mean by this is that since the amulet doesn't add +12 to str at all times (that is, it takes a standard action to activate...you may want to add a duration to that, by the way), it probably shouldn't be counted as if it does. Just thought I would interject.

Until deactivated with a standard action.

I'm aware of that, but why mention it? Did I miss something?

Yeah. Those reasons are always explained by me in game, so I forget to put them in. I'll pop somethin' in there.

What happens to the gems when it comes off, do they drop?

Nothing happens to the gems. They're just part of the amulet, and part of the "fluff". :)

Ferret said:
And do you change back?

Yes. If you take it off before deactivating it, you change back. Just like any other magic item, taking the item off removes any effects you had been granted. All items do that, unless their descriptions specfically state otherwise.

Do you think it needs to be stated anyway?

No, you didn't miss anything. It's just that I find many people don't realize that. I perfer to remind people of rules they might already know, they take the chance of not mentioning something they aren't aware of.

OK. I just asked in case you had a suggestion about the natural attacks part, like the damage or something.
