New Epic spell : BALEFIRE

You really need to reformat this thing to D&D standards. As it's written right now, it always kill the target whether they make their save or not. The save only determines if they take damage or are removed from the time stream.

You really need to clarify what you mean by remove from the time stream as well, since you don't explain it at all. My first instinct was to assume they were removed from time for the *next* 1d4+1 rounds.

Yes, most people will know what you mean when you explain it, but the point is, you shouldn't have to.

It should definitely be a ray spell, based on the description in the books. Ranged touch attack required, then the save. Theoretically there should be no save, but that would be terribly unfair for a game.

I'm sure it'll be re-written... the poster did it in haste I suspect. But I know the idea (he's in my game, and we've discussed it before). And yes, it would be a ray with range touch, then save. And the save is purely for game balence, I agree.

Clark...

The original WoT balefire's power is dependent upon the strength of the weaver. So a relatively weak channeler burns a few seconds out of reality, whereas someone exceedingly powerful could burn significantly more. It's not just a 'poof, they're gone, all of their past actions are gone, etc.' That'd be a bookkeeping nightmare for RJ.

yes, the spell as it is in WoT "burns a thread out of the pattern of ages" or something like that. BUT it's like thier version of the nuclear bomb. it is socially unacceptable to use it and it's a crime just to know how to do it because it burns through anyone and all but one substance. when it was first discovered, it was used extensively as a weapon untill they realized the strain they were putting on the world, time, and reality.

but I don't think the poster wanted to have the "burned out of the time stream" effect in this version.

Then again, the original spell wipes the target out of all of existance (including everything he's ever done.. ever, rather than 12-30 seconds)... so this would be a good Balespark spell or mini-Balefire spell. =)

No, not true. How far back an object can be burned depends on the amount of energy channeled into the attack; in the books, I believe Rand was routinely managing around 2 minutes, something like that. Most people can only manage to burn back a few seconds.

I beleive Balefire was only the inspiration for this Epic Spell, I don't think it was supposed to be a duplicate nor is it being used in a Wheel of Time campaign. We're just trying to work out the mechanics and see if it's feasable.
