New Excel Sheet that determines optimal Power Attack

Here you go, this Excel spreadsheet will calculate what your best Power Attack bonus is once given your base attack bonus, other to hit modifiers, and average weapon damage. You can calculate your optimum bonus for a single attack and for a full attack. I've assumed that "optimum" means highest average damage for the purpose of this spreadsheet.

The little red triangles will tell you what goes where. To have Excel find the best Power Attack for you (rather than try each bonus manually) you'll need the Solver add-on (which should be on your MS Office discs if it's not already under the Tools menu).

And as an aside, you can play with the critical threat ranges and two-handed values to see what Improved Critical/Keen and switching from one- to two-handed wielding will get you.

Ok, now for some constructive criticism. I fiddled around with it, and I admit that I have no clue how to use the solver.

What I would have liked to do is input my character's BAB, attack bonus, weapon damage, threat info and handedness. And then have it spit out (on another worksheet?) optimal Power Attack settings for AC 10 to 50 with damage info.

So this comes a month late...better late than never, sorry.

The sheet looks great from a simplicity standpoint. The full attack numbers (and single attack) are exactly correct for no PA. I too don't have the solver capability, alas.

I offer the spreadsheet on my site (click sig) as an alternative. It's a bit more cumbersome and is exceedingly large, but it should cover the bases andargor's mentioned.

Umm...you win! I've deleted mine...and am reviewing yours to learn Excel a bit better.
