New feat: 5-foot step as a free action

Hi all,

Anyone know if something like this exists in any of the third-party material?

Also, I'm looking for suggestions on the feat--is there anything about this that you would change if it were in your campaign? I thought about Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Lightning Reflexes, and other things as prerequisites, but ended up making it easier to qualify for--but a good argument might change my mind.

Also, I was thinking of limiting it to some number of times per day, maybe half your BAB?

You are more able than most to move around in combat.
Prerequisites: Dex 15, BAB +5
Benefit: You may take a 5-foot step as a free action rather than as a move action. As a result, you may take a 5-foot step in addition to a move action in a round. This feat does not grant you the ability to take two 5-foot steps in a round, although you may, if you choose, move only 5 feet during your move action. You may not take more than one 5-foot step as a free action in a round. On any round that you take a 5-foot step as a free action, you cannot take other free actions.

A 5-foot step is normally a free action; but you can't take a move in the same round.

Combining a move and a 5' step makes it very easy to avoid AoOs, maybe too easy.

Interesting...though I wouldn't tie it to BAB...I'd probably give it a pre-req of a decent amount of tumbling ranks and maybe another mobility based feat in addition to the Dex requirement. I do think it might be too powerful to use without limit A limited number of times per day might work, I guess...though that seems like a pretty flavorless route to go with it. Being able to think of a good, balanced limitation will be the tricky part, I think.

Make it one of those "swift action" dealies, instead of a free action. You've pretty much already done that. A "swift action" can only be used once a round, but doesn't count as a standard or move action.
