Progress on Hexographer continues! Here are the latest features:
  • Users can change the terrain types when generating a custom terrain map. Previously you could change the percentages of 11 terrain types in an auto-generated map, but now those 11 can be set to any 11 terrain types in Hexographer.
  • When tracing a map, the map being traced is no longer just centered under the new map. There are new controls on the left side of the map edit window to set the position and scale of the map being traced. There is also an instructions pop-up which appears when you set an underlay map to explain this further.
  • When adding text to the map, a preview of the text as it will appear on the map appears (next to your mouse pointer) once you move the mouse over the map.

If you're not familiar with Hexographer, it makes creating hex maps easy. (My 5 year old taught my 3 year old how to use it!) The default icon set is reminiscent of the classic Mystara/Known World maps, but it can easily be used to make World of Greyhawk 1st edition (where features are fixed within hexes) style maps as well. There is also built-in support for star maps like those in Traveller.

It's also free, although there is a "pro" version with some power-user features.
