Maybe just "Horror RPGs" so that Call of Cthulhu and other prominent games don't seem like they're getting second fiddle?

At which point we're back to the basic hypothesis. Does mentioning games encourage people to talk about them? The purpose of the forum is to test that hypothesis, in the same way that the Star Wars one did. It's why "Superhero RPGs" (which I included out of curiosity, just to see what happened) is the odd-man-out in the poll choices.

The hero system is criminally under represented .... well not just here but in general, but of those I like Cypher System the most.

If there's lots of fiddlyness, as MOrrus says, there's a problem - priming the pump.

With the Star Wars / Star Trek forum, Morrus included a number of threads that had been active in the recent past, so those discussions could continue and inspire new ones.

If you go with "Horror RPGs" what do you prime the pump with?

It takes ages. And is a lot more fiddly than you think! There are prefix issues....

I can see that there's a lot of threads that don't have the appropriate labels, so yeah, that's a problem. I was hoping for "find one, click on the label to bring up a listing of all, and mass move into the new forum", but when I do that, I find only one such thread in General. So, that maybe it won't work so well. *sigh*

Good points.

So, "World of Darkness & Other Horror RPGs" or "Call of Cthulhu & Other Horror RPGs" ? Which one is more popular and likely to draw more folks in?

That's really a toss up, really. Both have a significant player base. I might give the advantage to Call of Cthulhu based on its extra decade or so of existence.

Time means little - in the 90s, WoD blew everything but D&D pretty much out of the water, in terms of popularity.

But, I'd give CoC the advantage, for two reasons:

1) Just around these parts, it gets talked about more than WoD. The popularity I mentioned above didn't translate to representation EN World.

2) I expect WoD games are played more as Urban Fantasy than as Horror. This because in WoD, you get to play the monsters, while you don't in CoC.

I think "Horror RPGs" is more likely to be successful than calling out either specific game. I think genre's is a better approach. The issue with calling out a specific game is it discourages the ones you don't mention. We have the system prefixes for when we want to refer to mechanics, and they're a lot more effective when posts are divided by genre rather than one all encompassing forum where posts get buried.

I think Star Wars is a bit unique, and has a big enough following to support it's own forum.

3) Never bet against Elder Gods
