Don't restart the poll!

You and indeed all of us knew from the beginning that this race would be the most contentious. Already it has well surpassed the votes on the Elven poll - which, at 231, was the most votes on these polls so far. (Dwarves only had 180.)

If you wanted, you could close down this poll and open the Half-Elf (or is it Halfling next on the agenda) poll, as already we have more than enough to have a consensus (such that it is).

I find it interesting that Dwarves were overwhelmingly chosen for a single class (131 to Fighter, no more than 10 to any other class), while both Elf and Gnome have 20+ to four different classes with a few runner up classes. I look forward to Halflings, actually, to see where they end up.

Dwarven Favored Classes (by poll, 180)
131 Fighter

runners-up
10 Knight
09 Cleric
05 Artificer

Elven Favored Classes (by poll, 231)
56 Ranger
42 Duskblade
39 Sorcerer
32 Wizard

runners-up
13 Bard
09 Druid
09 Scout

Gnome Favored Classes (by poll, 306)
74 Artificer
54 Beguiler
54 Wizard
31 Bard

runners-up
17 Druid
16 Sorcerer
08 Archivist
06 Rogue
05 Spellthief

(I typically went for top four classes followed by next three runner-ups, but with Dwarves I had to go with only a single top class, as the next in the running was 121(!) votes less.)

I'm not planning to, I'm just a bit dissapointed at the number of complaints at the format. While everyone knew that the Gnome race would likely have the largest skew, alongside the elf, it was also since the beginning that everyone knew that there were going to be a lot of class choices. I'm not expecting everyone to know or to have played every class (I know I don't/haven't, for one) but for those who are complaining about the number of options, you didn't create this, so please stem the baggage.

If someone, after the main host of polls are completed, wishes to create a "Top 10" follow-up poll, that'd be a great addition to this project, and address more of the 'problems' that are being 'associated' with these polls.

For everyone who's enjoying these polls and not minding the format, thank you very much :)

cheers,

Illusionist.

Nyaricus, the issue with this thread is not really that there are too many choices, but rather that you conspicuously left out the "Illusionist" choice, which I would have voted.

Who knows how many of the Beguiler/Wizard/Bard voters would have voted for Illusionist had that been an option? So it's not that the choices are too many, but rather that the results of this particular poll will be greatly, greatly skewed because of the lack of that option. But because it's not, and because neither Wizard, nor Bard, nor Beguiler is what I think of Iconic for Gnomes, I'm not voting. If enough people feel the same way I do, then this poll will either render you no information, or false informaiton, neither of which I think you want.

*arches eyebrow* honestly, I'd hardly call it "conspicuous" - I would think people realise that Illusionist is a option you may choose when you take the wizard class.

In any case, I'm honestly not going to bother re-posting this poll with that singular option included. However, if someone wishes to repost this poll for the sake of the inclusion of the Wizard (Illusionist) class, feel free to do so :) I'll just vote for Beguiler again anyways :p;)

EDIT: and Felix, I'm sorry if I sound snippity to you, or to others. I'm not trying to single out any one person here, is all.

It's conspicuous not because I think you have a motive for doing it, but rather because Illusionist had been the favored, iconic class for gnomes for ... nearly 30 years. And in that time it has been seperate and distinct from the Wizard, albeit related.

Voting Wizard just isn't the same as voting Illusionist or Wizard (Illusionist), and it's a feeling or playstyle some might try to capture by voting instead for Beguiler or Bard though they wouldn't have been their first choice.

While you might just vote Beguiler anyway, since it's your poll, and assuming you put these things up to gauge exacly which class folks think should be the favorite class, I thought you might consider the fact that you did not provide a clear choice for what has been a 30-year lock for Gnomes, and that this will very likely skew the results.

PS No snippityness from your end, and hopefully none from mine, either. :)

 Well, considering that the Paladi of Slaughter *still* has a hearty following in this poll, up from the elven favoured class, I think an exact gauge is asking for a bit much ;)

In any case, I have a word doc with the classes saved, and if someone wishes to re-do this poll with thos eother options, I can easily post it up. I have no problem with that, really. In any case:

You were being as polite as could be, so no worries for yourself. I am just a bit flustered at this, is all.

I think I am going to have to start naming names in my polls, just to rat out you buggers :]

In a campaign I was in years ago there was an interesting NPC we met along the way. He never spoke to us, being caged up for his safety and that of others. Basically he was a Bbn 1 Gnome cursed to be in a continuous Rage - except that the DM had added to it the whole Deathless Frenzy bit as part of the curse. The gnome, whenever freed, attacked anything it saw until it was forced back into the cage. Loosed in a typical small city it could slay half the populace before being contained we were told. It was seemingly incapable of death.

An amusing idea. The DM apparently came up with it due to the idea of the Gnome's Con bonus synergizing with the Barbarian's d12 and bonus to Con while in a Rage. Then the Frenzied Berserker came out for the first time, and he thought the idea of a gnome caught in such to be hilarious. Thankfully we never had to fight the beast, as we were 3-4th level at the time.
