New guy at Fantasy Flight

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself to the forum; Rob Vaughn, new Associate RPG Developer for Fantasy Flight Games. In the tradition of Will Upchurch I plan to surf this board fairly regularly, so I'd be happy to answer questions/accept comments/etc.

I'd enjoy receiving, in particular, any feedback folks have on the Monster Lore and Arcane Schools Legends & Lairs books. I'm going to be taking over those line and would like to continue doing what works, removing what doesn't, and adding a bit of new stuff.

AND . . . now that they'll finally let me talk about it (my first rant on our web site, gushing about my first project, got edited to shreds because it was all so "top secret" ), I put together the Mastercraft Anthology Legends & Lairs collection, so I can answer any questions folks have about that . . . ie, why we did it, what's in it from each book, etc.

Well met,
Rob Vaughn

You asked for it, Rob.

Why did you do it?

What is in it from each book?

Etc?

:D

Welcome aboard!

How much of it is new and how much is old stuff.

From the website, it looks pretty certian that htis is 0% new material, and is basically a VERY nicely priced sampler of the rest of the L&L series of books.

Of course, as I own them all already...

Thanks! Sadly, I shan't be at Gamma. I'll be picking up the rest of the RPG office's slack - err, I mean, learning valuable lessons in independent decision-making!

I can tell you the "why" on the Mastercraft Anthology right now, and though I'm confident I could give you 95% accurate info on the "what", I'll wait till Monday so I can make it 100%.

The reasoning for the book is based on a sad reality of RPG publishing: great stuff comes out, sells really well, and then is forgotten . . . despite the fact that there might be a ton of "timeless" good stuff in it that new gamers and buyers will be interested in for years to come. Unfortunately, consumers' attentions tend to be grabbed by the newest stuff (can't blame anyone for that) and retailers have to respond to their customers' wishes. So great books like the Path of _____ will eventually stop being re-ordered, despite the cool stuff in it.

Mastercraft Anthology basically gives newer d20 players, or those that missed the Legends & Lairs hardcover line the first time around, or heck, those that couldn't afford it, a chance to dip their feet a little. The $4.95 price is obviously a huge selling point . . . instead of buying that happy meal or mini-adventure, you can pick this up and find a variety of interesting stuff that any broad-based playing group or GM would be able to use.

Obviously, we hope that you'll like it enough that you'll pick up some of the other Legends & Lairs books. But even if you're not going to go out and buy the whole line, you'll still have some cool legendary classes (and the concept, so you can develop your own) . . . some cool combat schools (and the concept, so you can develop your own) . . . some cool "small gods" (and the - eh, never mind, you get the idea :D )

So whereas a book focused on just fighters or just rogues or whatever would appeal to certain niche buyers, we hope this one will appeal to, well, everyone. And hopefully it'll keep up the kind of interest in the previously published Legends & Lairs hardcovers that they deserve.

Pshew! Shpiel part I, concluded. Monday morning, shpiel part II will commence :)
