I'm not surprised in the least that EN World's population "skews a bit older" as Eric put it. For one thing, as pointed out by DanMcS, many younger people are in school and don't have the *ehem* copious free time that we working-age folks have. For another thing, EN World tends to be for the more hard-core gamers, and in my experience, those are usually the older ones.

Although there I go again - making baseless generalizations in the absence of reliable data. Oops.

Wow, those numbers sure point to disaster.

Not nearly as much as these ones do.

After all, a company could thrive by steadily recruiting customers aged about thirty. That other survey suggests that recruiting has been falling off since 1982, regardless of the age of the recruits.

But I guess that no-one is panicking, because they know that this poll is not representative, and will still be unrepresentative even if its sample ever gets to be large.

WotC has got some serious recruiting to do...

Not necessarily. There are other games, other very good games, than d20. If WotC were to fail, and D&D wither on the vine, it wouldn't really do me all that much harm. It's not as though I have shares in Hasbro.

The numbers for "when did you start playing" really are confusing in light of the results so far for "what year were you born".

Note that different numbers of people have voted in the different polls. They report different samples, biased in different ways.

Note that a sample can still be biased even though it is large.

just voted in the other thread. about how long I've been playing for.

Rest assured that I have recruited about 6 gamers from my age group...

I'm 22, and my first game was D20 star wars, so yeah... jsut for some background...
