New LOTR DVD's out in Aug.

well, there's supposed to be 'new material' on these discs. I know there were some scenes that didn't even make it into the extended editions. We got some glimpses of these in the background material in the current discs. There is apparently a scene in TTT where some orcs sneak down into the caves at Helms Deep where the women and children are, and Eowyn takes them out. There are some other snippets in both the EE background material and the original theatrical releases (usually in the previews for the next movie) that didn't make it into the final cuts. The big question is, would you pay another $90 to get these snippets....

Hmmmmmmmmm...damm..they didnt they put all the scenes on the extended disks :(

I doubt I'll fork out another $90 bucks...

The good news is if these sell well maybe New Line and Sony WILL finally get down to settling the Hobbit issue :)

Why am I reminded of a certain easter egg on RotK disk 2?

Ben Stiller: "There's a little milk left in the teat! Suck that teat. Suck it."
Vince Vaughn: "schuup! schuup! schuup!"
Peter Jackson: "Err, guys..."

*rolls eyes* How many times can companies release the same movie?

I all ready own the extended versions of all three, but the documentaries sound interesting. I wish those would be released separately, but I know they won't. I guess I'll have to pass.

Because people buy them... not me, of course. I usually buy something once (except for Star Wars, but the franchise is older than than I am).

I bought the theatrical and extended versions of each film, so that's quite enough for me. Besides, that's money that can be better spent on DVDs I don't already have versions of.
Yeahhh, I don't think the repackaged DVD sets are aimed at prior owners like us.

Still, I wouldn't mind if they would sell the documentary DVD for us. Still hoping for those blooper reels.

Despite popular belief, not everyone owns either of the LotR movies...

It's like saying, "But I already have a car, why are they making newer models?"

Yeah, it's just like saying that--except, of course, for all the various parts where it's a terrible analogy.

True, everyone doesn't have the movies--just practically everyone who wanted to have them.

Actually, those discs don't sound terribly appealing.

Disk 1 carries both the theatrical and extended versions via seamless branching. Given that the current extended editions are split across two discs, doesn't this mean they'll have had to use much higher compression rates, which result in lower picture and sound quality? I would also be doubtful whether the DTS and commentary tracks exist on these discs.
It might be on the newer HD/Blue-Ray formats, in which case, a new release makes some sense.

Still not interested, I hanve't had a chance to watch the first extended release version yet.
