New Metamagic Rules....argh!

Hey all,

Has anyone else noticed that WOTC is releasing revised material that should have been in the PHB in UA instead. I find this highly frustrating. They said they did not have time to rewrite the metamagic rules for the revision, but then they go ahead and release them in UA.

I generally like WOTC, but with the all-new improved splat books etc, they are really straining the wallet. I would not mind if the material was 99% new etc, but having to pay for new splat books and the like every few years just seems ridiculous.

Am I alone here?

Hey

I think you're misunderstanding. It seems that Unearthed Arcana will contain optional rules, amongst which are a new system for combat, spellcasting, the application of metamagic feats, and some other stuff. The original UA for 1Ed AD&D had a similar format - lots of optional rules to the game. Hopefully this version will be as useful :) Unless of course it is me who is mistaken ...

Thanks
-Matt

Eh...my wallet is just light from all the July fun. However, I am basing my thoughts on the UA/ WOTC report floating around the boards. I just find it annoying that they are printing revised metamagic rules in UA rather than put them in the PHB.

And they are making the $1000+ dollars I spent on WOTC 3e books obsolete while reprinting a high number of material.

I like 3.5, but I think they could have waited on it and brought out more creative stuff. As a GM I generally buy all the books and it is just a drain.

But, as has been said, there wasn't enough time to test the new rules for the 3.5 Core books AND it would have been far more a rewrite than a Revision. Hence, it will fit perfectly into UA.

Andy Collins has said that they had an idea for a new metamagic system, but they didn't have time to playtest it for 3.5e, so they didn't include it. Odds are that the metamagic system in UA will be that system (or a descendant of it, depending on how playtesting went). They'll have had an extra 6+ months to playtest the system; that ought to be plenty of time.
